honestly there is only ONE thing (ok, maybe two options) that will help you on ice.

1) STUDS, they are the only GOOD way to get traction on ice (rubber tires alone wont do it, if you think that they can bring the car over here and we will try it out, id be more than happy to be PROVED wrong)

2) CHAINS: these tend to be more a PITA than most people are willing to deal with, but will give you traction on ice since they dig in.

the issue is that rubber cannot dig into ice and hence have nothing to grab onto, studs and chains both dig into the ice since they are harder than the ice, and hence, TRACTION.(at least a little bit)
