Default Opinion on 2011 Durango deal?

I went to dealership in Northern California and test drove a nice black 2011 Dodge Durango R/T with tow package, nav and leather. It had no sunroof which is perfect for me (I'm 6'7"). It had 26K miles on it and was in good shape (39,500 MSRP in 2011)

They initially told me the price was $26,900 but when I said OK, lets do it the finance guy said that was a mistake and it cost 35,999. The lowest they would go was 32,799 about 4 weeks ago.

Today I get a call from the salesman who says they still have it. They said they want to deal.

I had already looked into ordering a 2012 with the same option for $37,500 (invoice minus 500) and figure by the time it arrives there may be incentives around $3500 (around July 4th) with the high gas prices.

Essentially I can get a new one for around $34000 or a used one (previous year with 26K miles) for ???

What do you think is a fair deal?

Also with the 2011 being used my credit union said the interest rate would be 3.75 % vs 2.75 % for a new one.

Advice?

Well worth the money to wait for a new one. Just think warranty wise plus to have that many miles it could of been a rental vehicle prior. Get the carfax on it but if I were you stick with a new one.

Thanks for the opinion. On the plus side the car will be staying outside so I won't feel so bad about that with a used one. I do love that new car smell though ... ahh

With 26k miles, the car is over 2 years old mileage wise. I would go new, plus you then know the history of the car of how it was maintained. Carfax is good, but just because it doesn't show something doesn't mean nothing happened. At that price point I would go new, you could always drop down to a crew for almost the same price as the used 2011.

I just bought a 2011 Citadel with the V8 and 13k miles from Carmax for $34k. Sounds like the dealer was ripping you off. BTW, I'm also 6'7" and there is plenty of headroom with the sunroof.

If they want to deal, tell them $26,900 and be firm on it!
