Locked both key fobs in vehicle - TWICE!
I didn't think you were supposed to be able to lock the keys in the car. I am a former owner of many vehicles with the key pads on the outside of the vehicle and I have not gotten used to ensuring keys are out of the vehicle. Most times when I do this - the correct thing happens - and the doors unlock and the horn goes. However - twice this has not been the case. Just checking to see if anyone else has come across this situation. I am really hoping for a tip on a secret way to utilize the button on the door handle that you use to lock the car by pressing twice. Any tips out there? Thanks. By the way - love the Durango - best car I have ever had.
The car will (should) sound the horn three times if you close the remote start key fob in the car. It will shut you out after the third attempt.
If it did not then check the DIC settings, I guess. The FOB should be RFID equipped with or without remote start. Make certain the FOB is associated with a Memory setting i.e. set up for keyless entry and linked to a memory. This should ensure the DD "sees" the key properly. At least from an "IT" point of view ;-)
Secret "handshake" with the door button?!? Not sure what that is, but I might be senile but understood that using the interior door lock button and then the exterior sets the anti theft alarm. This sounds a beep (not horn) if the door handles are used without the FOB and some other stuff. Pretty cool, but not too loud though.

I apologize in advance <Flame on>
Okay, what did you people do BEFORE there were keypads and keyless passive entry? Were you locked out of the car all the time? Just because a computer shouldn't let you do something, doesn't mean there aren't certain conditions that will allow it to happen. The computer between the ears is the only thing that shouldn't malfunction. Why would you ever have both key fobs in the vehicle, yet not on your person? This is a good way of having your $40k+ vehicle stolen from you. Don't think it can't happen.

On ours, the handle button locks the door by pressing it once. Maybe pressing it twice, or three times, overrides the check for the FOB inside the vehicle?
