Today I tackled the factory hitch install, easy enough and looks great! Now question, does the harness have to be installed to have it turned on by the dealer? Reason being I have an oil change Friday and not sure I'll get my tow harness installed by then, but would like to have it activated.. Instructions show the first step as activating so I imagine they can.. Also looks like there is only one wire to splice is that accurate? Thanks in advance!

Yes, There is only one wire that you need to actually splice in. The other wires in the harness have connectors that you have to add to the existing plugs in the PCM. Take note to the earlier discussion in this thread about releasing the retaining clip so you can install the two small connectors.

Yeah I did take note and that's where I stopped On the install last night. Mine has the two blocks in them and I can't get them out! I'll be at it again tonight!

The blue wire gets routed thru the firewall behind the glove box. It is used for the brake controller if you are planning on installing one. That is another seperate harness you would have to buy and install.

Ok good that's what I was thinking! I'll just tuck that away for now, no plans on installing a brake controller.. Thanks for the help!

For any interested, here's the difference in the compact spare and full size spare:

Dakota~N~Camaro: That's what some wonder about, getting the OEM style which requires cutting (very easy since the bumper is marked for it) or the aftermarket style like the Curt one you linked, which hangs down lower. I think most find the OEM style better as it puts the hitch at the intended location and tends to look better.
