The cabin air filter is behind the glove box.
1. Open and empty glove box.
2. There is string on the right side of the box attached to a plastic clip. Pull forward and out on the clip. Do not let go of the string, keep tension on the string and let it reel itself in.
3. Gently push in on the right side then push in on left side . The glove box is now removed. (It will probably just fall to the floorboard so be ready)
4. There is a black plastic cover directly under the dash facing to the rear of the SUV. Pull on the retention clip on the left side and pull off the cover.
5. Remove filter and replace. Ensure arrow is down.
6. Replace plastic cover. put the right side on first there is a hinge it needs to catch on. Then attach the left side make sure it is sealed properly by pressing firmly.
7. Perform steps above in reverse and reinstall the glove box.

Voila! You just save yourself a nice chunk of change!

Great writeup and pics!! The books says the "D" has a filter but doesn't say where it is or how to change it. Many thanks for the info.

 

Out of curiousity how often are u guys changing these?

 

1x per year as annual maintenance. They are only $10-$20 depending on what you get.
