Yes, this is hemi.

Yes, drain plug and spin-on filter are similar to all older cars.

The only thing necessary to remove on top of engine for oil change is the filler cap. If you want to remove the big Hemi cover for another reason, I can't help there. . . I have not removed mine . . yet. : )

i know on my 2012 V6 the plastic cover just pops off...pull straight up on it and the rubber grommets release pretty easily...i hate what all the new engines in all the cars look like nowadays...i miss the ol' days where you could open a hood and see an engine not a bunch of plastic covers...ok rant over lol

My AWD R/T has a plastic cover making it hard to access the oil filter. The next time I change it, I will take the cover off unless somebody here has a trick to get the filter off through the access hole in the cover.

Was the Durango up on ramps or a lift? I could see it being difficult if the vehicle was not raised up. . . the access hole is approx. 6" x 10", and I did not feel it was restrictive at all.

It was on ramps. It would have been a lot easier on a lift. I don't have access to one though. I don't know if it's the Mobil 1, but I'm getting 21 MPG on the highway with the Hemi now which I think is great.

So there is no way of removing the oil filter without a ramp or lift?

It could be done while setting on the ground, but you would want to be careful, depending how hot the oil is. : )

I went out to try reaching things. . I can fairly easily grip the filter by reaching up under the front-end. . the front lip of R/T is 8" off ground, and the cover panel is 9" above ground, so there is not a lot of clearance. . . the process might be - -> stick your head under there and figure out where everything is, then pull your head out, reach in and remove. . . you could get your head and arm under the front-end at same time, but that might require some contortions.

It could definitely be done, but depending on thickness of drain pan etc. it would not be simple.
