Default iPod connectivity issue

Hi all,

It's been a month since I bought my 2012 D and I love the car. I have been facing an issue with my iPod but cannot find any solution on the Internet let alone any other user who is facing this issue.

When I connect my iPod to the uconnect entertainment system (730n) it's plays fine but once in a while I loose audio, i.e. the audio is played through the iPod's speakers (it's a 4th gen Touch). I can see the details on the screen i.e. track details and can control which song is played but can't get the sound to play through the vehicle's speakers.

The problem goes away on its own. I have tried to disconnect and reconnect. Tried to take the cable out from the USB port and reconnect after a minute or so. I have also tried to shut the car down and restart. All to no avail.

I faced similar problem with my iPhone as well but I could fix the problem by just dialing a number and disconnecting the call once the car speakers were activated. Can't do with the iPod.

Anyone faced this issue or know of a solution?

HJAve you tried to reboot the iPod? That usually helps with a lot of issues.
Hold the power and home buttons till the white apple appears, then let go of them. The pod will now reboot.

I did try to reboot the iPod and it solves the problem but I don't want to keep doing that every time this happens.

Hope there is a permanent solution for this.

Are you using the Apple USB cord? If not, you should. The latest Apple cords do not have the side buttons at the 30-pin connector, which can make the connection loose.

Yes, there are differences in the quality of the cables. actually there was a guy on the local news here that had his iPhone connected to an aftermarket cable that heated up at the phone soo much that it melted the plastic on the connector and the phone. This also then started a small small burning patch on his seat cusion. Luckily he was in the truck and saw the smoke.
Having to reset the iPod isn't a Uconnect issue, it's an iPod issue. Is your SW current on it?

I am using the original apple cord and my software is up to date as well.

Plus I reckon that if it was a cable issue then I wouldn't be able to see the track details on my screen.

Maybe, you see the data is in packets and they have to be delivered in a time window. I have seen a bad cable do strange things and the cable looked fine. Some features will be fine and other may be sporatic.
If you have anothe iPod I would try it for awhile and see what happens.

I get the same thing with my iPod 4/RHR sometimes. Plays and shows track info and time but no sound. This can happen just after skipping to next track or right from the start. Sometimes it starts working by itself, other times it takes many unplugs and resets, then other times it works perfectly.
Tried with 3 different cables with no difference.

Well for me what worked is a restart of the iPod. It has been 5 straight days of peace of mind.

Hope that works out for you. I have to do this periodically on my iPhone as well as my 4th gen touch.
