Default adding in roof rear entertainment system

One option my '12 R/T did not have was the rear entertainment system. There are not yet any plug and play aftermarket units available that incorporate the rear air controls and Dodge is not selling the factory unit......

I have a stereo installer I use for everything, I mean everything, boat, house 5 cars, RV.......I talked with him and he was looking into it. He called yesterday. He worked on another Durango and found that he can install an aftermarket unit and either delete the rear air controls or move them. I don't want to delete the controls. He can do this for about $600.00 total. I am waiting till the end of summer when my roadtrips for my son's sports kicks in again. I'm in the NW and this installer is Mobile Audio.

(BTW: We added a subwoofer harness to the Durango. I move a 8" 100 watt Bazooka between the D and my fifth wheel. The D has almost too much bass with both the factory sub and the Bazooka going!)

I am in a similar quandary. I am about to buy a Crew (next week) that does not have the rear entertainment system either but is perfect otherwise. Instead of spending thousands more (sunroof + DVD and maybe more options) for the factory unit I will need aftermarket as well.

I also confirmed with the dealer this AM that the rear screen is not available as a part for order.

I have seen many on Amazon and such that look decent but did not want junk. Also, the thought of cutting into a nice new headliner is not comforting.
Those air controls look to be right in the wrong area so I think they need to go.

Also, too bad about Sirius backseat TV. I will have to add that as well I suppose.

The only rear controls mine came with was the one on the center arm rest behind the center console for the backseat to control whether or not the air goes to the floor, up, or none. Not to high tech.

vizualogic and some others make headrest monitors that will work on active head rests like ours. They are also coming out with a tablet version. Plus you can install them yourself and watch more then one thing at a time. Tablet version would be bad *** with the dodge wifi system.

I've got the stock overhead unit and hate it. You can't see anything when it is down, and it is too small. Thinking about getting the headrest units.

any of the ones that work with the active headrest just look like a second headrest strapped behind the original...they are so big and bulky and aweful looking you might as well just go with the strap on ones that are smaller
