Default Droid video in a Durango

I hooked up my Droid to the D this weekend, and now I can watch netflix, dish network, cinemax, blockbuster, and youtube on either or both monitors. You can display anything you can display on your phone, including navigation, weather, email, internet, you name it.

I already had a lockpick installed, so to get it to work all you have to do is get the xternal display app for free in the app market, and a hdmi to composite converter box. I bought a cheap $35 one off of amazon. You have the option of plugging it into the RCA inputs in the back seat or directly into the lockpick. I went with the back seat, since I have the built in inverter. The converter box runs on 110.

Pretty easy, only drawbacks are you cell service for streaming on the run. Some places works great others it skips a lot. You could always download the movie right on your phone.
Video quality isn't always the best.
It can be a pain to navigate on your phone. When you run xternal display, your phone display doesn't work, so you have to look at the monitor and guess where to push on your phone. Can be challenging at times.

I have an iphone so ordered their breakout cable ($20 on Amazon) - but I don't have the lockpick installed - it should work in my rear entertainment screen when in motion right?

My wife has an iphone, and that should work fine. You can also see it on the front screen when stopped.

I'm running an app called xternal display. I have a droidx and it has a mini hdmi, so I had to convert from mini hdmi to composite. Sucks to have to run a hdmi cable to a converter to RCA cables. Kind of clutters things up, but it serves it's purpose. Anything I could do on the phone, I can now display on either or both screens.
