Tow Package on the '12 Durango
I just got back from my first trip towing our 5,000 lb Airstream. It towed great. Ended up at 12 mpg, but it was very hilly and a lot of secondary roads. It just what I used to get with my ML500.
I purchased a 2012 Durango Crew with the V6. No Tow package.
Good news - the wiring for towing was there from the factory - I just purchased and installed the factory cross member with receiver, installed the socket that the trailer harness plugs into, and connected the socket to the existing wiring. Had to modify the plastic bumper piece. Also had to get the service department to reprogram to activate the wiring harness.
Here's my question: since the vehicle was pre-wired for towing from the factory, is there also a socket behind my dashboard that would allow me to have a "Tow/Haul" button?

No, unfortunately the tow/haul button and software only come on the V8's.
I looked into putting one in (and I have the factory to package) and contacted an engineer at Chrysler. He told me the wiring harness isn't there, and the software doesn't contain the program for it.

Just installed my hitch on my 2012 sxt. Dealer wants $130 for the activation alone, so I'm going to have them install the harness for not much more. The installation was a breeze. Removal of the bumper gave me the most grief. There are clips that hold the bumper skin to the body that are easy to break. All I need now is to find a full size spare.
