What's the REAL MPG?
I'm a bit jaded after a very disappointing mpg experience on my 2006 Jeep Commander (sticker said up to 19 ~ I never got over 15) so before I pull the trigger on a new Durango (will likely go w/ a base RWD model), I'd appreciate hearing what kind of ACTUAL mpg some of you new Durango owners are getting.
I own a AWD R/T and I manage to get 16 combined and on longer highway trips almost 22. I am usually light on the right foot and use cruise whenever possible. Drove an '06 Trailblazer 5.3L V8 4WD prior and experienced similar MPG. I am happy with D MPG considering additional weight and cubes
I have a 2012 Hemi AWD Citadel with about 5,000 miles on it. I have a K&N air filter which might provide a slight mileage advantage. I put about 2,500 miles a month on, 75% highway. I've been averaging around 17MPG, but it's been increasing with engine break-in. I just got back from a 1,000 mile trip, and probably averaged 21MPG. On one two hour flat stretch, I got 23.1MPG without drafting. I do use the Adaptive Cruise control to draft semis, and when I do, the mileage can shoot up over 25MPG.
One thing I dislike is that the miles included in the mileage calculation is much shorter than on my 2005 Hemi Durango. I suspect that they have changed it to a 50 or 100 mile average, probably so drivers are quickly rewarded or penalized by their driving style. On my 2005, it could go weeks without changing the mileage so there was no immediate association between driving style and mileage. I don't mind more immediate feedback but it would be nice to be able to track the mileage over a whole trip.

My wife and I share our 2012,Citadel,AWD,Hemi. She drives it a week while I drive our suburban, and then I drive it a week (40mls per day each). I have noticed a huge difference between our MPG averages. When I asked her if she pays attention to the tach (has a green area for economy) she said no, I do watch it though. I beleive that is the difference between her 14MPG and my 17MPG averages (mostly city). But, ive noticed we both do about 1mpg better in the Durango than we do in the Suburban, even though the burban is in 2wd most of the time, they are very close in weight, and the Durango is full time AWD, and has 40+ more horses.
I have an AWD R/T. In town I get about 14-15, on the highway I see 19-22. Typical mixed average is about 17-18. I have 13000 miles on since Dec. 14th. Seems mileage is improving with break in.

On our cross-Europe trip, our new 5.7 Hemi Citadel – despite speeds of up to 200 km/h and always enthusiastic driving – returned a fuel consumption of 14.3 litres/100 km = 16.5 miles per US gallon / 19.75 miles per UK gallon – which is notably better than the previous gen 1 4.7 Durango achieved – even with that car's Vmax cut-out limited to 184 km/h.
