Default 730 radio

I've got the 730 radio in my 2012 Citadel and while it is OK, I have to wonder whether the people who design these things actually use them in their own cars. For instance, I have issues with these design aspects;

  1. Seriously folks, you think Dodge can design a better GPS than Garmin? I wish they had opted to integrate a Garmin like on the 430.
  2. Who has 50 or fewer favorite songs? This can't take much memory, how about 200+. A firmware update would fix this.
  3. Not sure who to blame - Sirius or Dodge - but Sirius presents the same song titled different ways "Lowrider" and "Lowrider (75)" and Dodge does a literal comparison instead of a substring, so I have to save both names to favorites. Effectively I've now got only 25 favorites slots. Either Sirius should get their act together on naming, or Dodge should ignore anything in parenthesis. Another simple firmware fix.
  4. Don't bother bragging about voice control when you use menus. Too distracting and slow. If it doesn't save time, don't bother.
  5. Why do I have to be presented with the disclaimer screen every time I turn the car on? Even if I just turned it off seconds ago. Really?
  6. Why can't it remember that I like to see the song titles when in Sat radio mode, rather than assuming that I continually need to be reminded of the channel names for the presets I myself programmed? Every time I get in the car I have to wait for the disclaimer to clear (because I refuse to continually agree), and then change the mode to song title. Another easy firmware fix - it already remembers the mode for a minute or two if you turn it off for short periods.

I agree the disclaimer is annoying. Remind me once a moth if you have to. Even their iPhone app has the disclaimer every time.

As for voice control, I've found that I can just say all the commands at once, For example, "Call Joe Jones Home". Then just confirm with "yes".

My only regret on my D is ordering the 730N radio. The 430N is far superior with the Garmin Navigation. I guess that's why the new 8.4 inch radios have Garmin.

Never realized so many people had issues with the 730N, I love mine and after shopping it out and using the 430N i thought it to be well worth the upgrade. I'm guessing the 8.4'' unit using the garmin based system has more to do with contractual agreements than anything else.

I have a TomTom 1535TM (replaced my original 910) and I love it! I'm used to using it and there's no way that I can get used to using the 730N's navigation. I've tried, but it's just not very intuitive or user-friendly, in my opinion. I get a lot more information out of the TomTom, it's very easy to use, plus I get all of the traffic and map updates for free (without advertisements, like other units have). I've never used a Garmin, but I imagine that it has to be similar to the TomTom because I just can't see anyone liking the 730N's navigation over a stand-alone unit.

I have the 430N, my wife has the 730. I have noticed that the 730 map screen is more detailed than mine - and mine is set to 'most detail'. This is at any zoom level. My old Garmin GPS was also more detailed at any zoom, so I find the lack of detail annoying on the 430.

I used the 730 GPS for one trip, but since then I've found myself using my dash-top Garmin on other trips. My three year old Garmin has more features, is more familiar and intuitive to operate, and doesn't vie for the radio display. I just sold my Garmin at a garage sale and am getting a newer and better one (3590LMT).

I like to use my dash top Garmin for trips. The Garmin sucks for showing nearby towns and other features while the 730 is great for showing towns and other interesting features along with use around my town. I have no regrets on getting the 730. The display alone is worth the extra money.

Are you guys that are complaining about the 730n being difficult to use old men or something? Because its very easy to use and figure out IMO. Haven't opened the user manual once. I love it. But I've also had 2 other in dash nav units in two other vehicles prior to the Durango.

Wow, can't believe you posted that. Not sure anyone said it was difficult to use. I believe the GPS interface is not as intuitive as a Garmin.
