Exclamation Discontinued

I just read on Motortrend.com that the Dodge Durango will be discontinued to be replaced by the comparable Jeep Wagoneer. I'm in the market for a new R/T by November and was wondering if this could lead to a drop in price?

Potential discontinuation isn't until 2016. No price drop from that rumor news... especially by November. Just buy what you like at the best price you can find.

Cool

Old news. A factory rep told me the following: (disclaimer: FRs are notoriously wrong) FIAT is continuing the consolidation of lines started with the ending of Plymouth. GM and Ford have/are doing the same thing. It makes zero sense to build cars which compete with each other under the same group. Spend the capital on R&D and QA instead.

By 2016 all trucks will be sold under RAM, all cars under Dodge and all other 4WDs under Jeep. Makes far more sense than the silly multi-sub-brands perpetuated by Detroit for so many decades...

You missed a great sale this last weekend. I leased a new R/T and saved ~$7000 with factory rebates, incentives, loyalty and my company discount. The last week of the year is also a good time to buy since dealers want to get inventory off the books. I saved a bundle off an Infiniti by purchasing December 31st.

with the Durango it also comes down to number that JNAP can build. 100k Grand Cherokees have been sold in 2012 thru august. Its ChryCo's number 2 selling vehicle behind the Ram. 2014 is projected to be a record year for the grand cherokee with the 8 speed, 2nd gen uconnect 8.4" screen etc. In 2015 add the grand wagoneer and maserati to that and your looking at the demise of the light selling Durango

I have heard nothing official about the future of the Durango. It's all speculation at this point.

How true. Just published today in Automobile Magazine:

Though Dodge’s minivan may have been spared, the brand’s other seven-passenger vehicle, the Dodge Durango, could be sent to the chopping block by 2014. Such a move would make room for production of the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer at Chrysler’s Jefferson North assembly plant. Though the Durango’s discontinuation is a possibility, Automotive News reports Marchionne said Chrysler is considering a redesign for Durango, a decision that could move it to another plant. If the Durango survives, it could share a platform with the next Grand Caravan and Town & Country replacement. The Dodge Journey will be redesigned in the 2014 model year, moving to a Fiat-sourced platform.

were speaking to the current Durango platform

I think it would be terrible to move it to the minivan platform. That would be a crossover, front drive piece of crap

Sigh. So was I. The first part of the quote was specific to the futurue of the current platform.

"the Dodge Durango, could be sent to the chopping block by 2014. Such a move would make room for production of the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer at Chrysler’s Jefferson North assembly plant.
