Default "Free" Oil Change?

Reading the offer that the dealer keeps reminding me of, it seems the "Free" first oil change is not free for the Durango. It only includes "Engine oil replacement up to 5 qt...synthetic and specialty oils higher".
Since the Durango with Hemi takes 7 qts and I would prefer synthetic, there must be an extra charge.

So my question:
How much did you guys actually pay for this "free" service?

I just had my first oil change at the dealer today. Apparently, I was told that my first four oil changes are free. I didn't pay anything at the window when picking up my key, so it was free for me. They didn't offer the synthetic option, though, so I might be on a different "free" plan.

My dealer is California Superstores Folsom and the letter is from them. They only give one for "free".

I really don't know about the free oil changes...My dealer offers a lifetime oil change for $500.00 which I am a big fan of. I bought the first lifetime oil deal with our 2005 Ram Diesel. It has certainly paid for itself and the new program for our Durango!

I paid exactly $0 for my free oil change at 3,000 miles (they were impressed it was exactly 3,000), and the dealer uses 100% synthetic. Then I got a Mopar card in the mail, buy one oil change, get three free for about $70. Though it said 5qts only and no synthetic, my dealer honored it for my Durango and used synthetic. I do disagree with my dealer when they still recommend oil changes every 3,000 despite using synthetic. I believe their business office insists they recommend 3,000, but on further discussion they said 5,000 would be fine - even after I pointed out that 6,000 is pretty typical for synthetic and the Durango manual says 8,000.

My first "free" oil change was actually free, unless you count the cargo cover and t-shirts I bought when I picked up the truck!!

You are very lucky to find a dealer still doing lifetime, many dealers have been dropping those since they lose money on the deal. It does bring you in regularly, so I think they are being shortsighted in eliminating those. I started shopping new Durangos in June while getting a lifetime oil change on the wife's Charger, and bought a Durango a few days later.

bbtkd,

They rotate the tires every change too. They charge $10 for that but most times do not charge us.
