Since I got it used it didn't have the owners manual. Is it the oil change the same for the v6 and v8? If it is thanks everyone I will go the eight thousand miles. By the way I think my Durango is awesome.

 

the reason for the 6 month time limit on it is because in most cases vehicles that pick up lower mileage do alot of idling which is adding hours w/o the miles, and dumps extra fuel and contaminants into the system. (excessively idling a gasoline engine isnt good for it to begin with but thats a discussion for elsewhere). if you do regular driving with minimal idling then going by mileage alone will be just fine, however as stated by dodgecares above, it may give you warranty issues if you come up w/ a problem. The other concern about cars that pick up low miles every year would be if they do alot of sitting around and the crank isnt sealed properly you could get moisture in there, if you do long enough drives this moisture will boil out, i fyou do alot of short trips or sitting the engine doesnt get hot enough to 'cook' the water/fuel out of the system.


tl;dr if you drive regularly (and long enough to completely warm up the engine) you wont do any harm to your engine doing oil changes based on mileage alone

 

2011Silvercrew- Did you check the glove compartment carefully for the owners manual? It is hard to see, but there is a small compartment on the inside top of the glove compartment where the manuals are stored.

Texan> I don't have a picture handy, but I can tell you if you put your head on the passenger seat and look into the glove compartment you should notice a cavity going up towards the base of the windshield at about a 45 degree angle. Use a little flashlight.

I think the book is in a black jacket, possibly making it tough to see. And I have noticed that the book is pretty tough to get in and out of that slot. Neat idea, poorly executed.

Yea I checked and I also checked two other durangos on the lot when I got mine none had it.

 

That's because the manuals for each vehicle come in a box with the DVD and the quick start guide as well as the VES headphones and remote control where applicable.

In addition to what Shrpshtr325 mentioned, the oil also breaks down over time, which the oil change indicator system does not take into account. The oil change indicator on the 2011-2012 models measure:
- Ambient Temperature
- Average Speed
- Run Time
- Short Trips
- Trailer Tow
- E85 Use

If the light does not come on within 6 months or 13,000km (8 miles), it is the customer's responsibility to have the oil changed. Since the oil change indicator does not measure time at all, the light will not come on after 6 months has elapsed if the metrage or operating parameters are not exceeded.

 

If the computer measures:
2011-2012 models measure:
- Ambient Temperature
- Average Speed
- Run Time
- Short Trips
- Trailer Tow
- E85 Use


What will happen if you battery dies, does it keep it statically or does that get reset?

 

Wow thanks for the exellent responses. Now full synthetic or regular oil change, this will be my first oil change. Any suggestions, also i heard that once you use full synthetic you shouldn't go back to regular oil.
