I don't think they had a choice. They had to make some needed improvements to bring demand and increase sales it said their sales dropped 20% yoy

Indeed you are correct. I Had a fully customized Gen 1 before this. When we toured the plant and they showed us these my first reaction was OMG what did they do to it?
Then I realized what they were shooting for and waited for my opportunity to get one.
I think they crested the look with the 13 but now realize they have to take a new spin on even that, as you said, to secure more sales

I too was a D1 owner, loved it other than the gas consumption issue. The thing is bullet proof. I still see more D1 durangos driven around than any other vehicle of that period. Quite a testament to reliability even despite today's ridiculous gas prices. I'm considering getting a difficult to find 6cyl D1 for my soon to be driving teenager.

New '14s look really nice. Bummed that I can't upgrade, and if it is quiet outside I think I can actually HEAR my resale plummeting.

That aside, kudos to Dodge as it appears that they really are listening to consumers with the updates. I am a foreign owner convert, and really do want to see American automakers succeed. Of course whether or not you call Chrysler American any more is a complex question as well.

I love everything I see on the new one except for the shift **** vs lever. But i would take it in a heartbeat vs the old tranny without paddles.
