Soooo..How does this happen?
I hate for this to be my first post but, here goes. I purchased a new D Crew(6cyl, roof, garmin) about a month ago. 2k miles and no problems. While cleaning it his weekend, I noticed a chip in the paint by the rear window. Now, I am a little bit of a neat freak and never noticed this previously. Upon closer inspection, I realize that the rear window has a chip in it from where it came in contact with the fender! I look at the passenger side and there are no marks but, the gap between the rear hatch and fender is HUGE! I go back and look at the drivers side and there is hardly any gap! Well I took it to the dealership today and their body shop took pictures and told me they were going to contact Dodge and see what needs to be done!? Any thoughts? Anyone?
You did the right thing, hopefully the dealer will arrange a fix for you and further make an adjustment. I would stay in touch with the dealer until the issue is resolved. I would also take some pictures and monitor the defect in case it continues to get worse.

I would suggest you contact Dodge as well just to document the issue. They can also tell you if the dealer has been in contact about this problem. Numbers below.

Well the dealership got back to me...They will need the Durango for two days to remove and align the rear gate, replace/repair the rear glass, and touch up any paint issues. I guess I can't ask for more but...I just want to know how can/did this happen on a brand new truck!? Quality control anyone?
I had paint issues on my truck to the point where it looked as if it had clearly been repainted from the left rear door and back on mine. First noticed it when I took the pinstripes off when I got home, when I got to the rear door, it took off a good bit of clear coat with it. That cause me to do a closer inspection and there were several other blemishes on that side of my truck and overspray on the rear window! After some months of back and forth with the dealer I got my truck repainted. There was no record of it ever being damaged from the factory to the dealer.

Do they inspect a handful of trucks only? I don't think they can inspect every single truck coming off the assembly line, or do they.
Other possibility, could it had happened during transport or at the dealership?

*update* Happy to report dealership did it's job. Apparently the rear window was installed incorrectly at the factory. It was glued in offset to the driver side which caused the glass to chip off from rubbing on the rear quarter. One new rear window and a bit of a re-spray and good as new!
Glad to hear they took care of it for you. My D's paint job is awful. Wavy, orange peel texture, especially on the sides. Compared to my previous vehicle (2002 Maxima) and wife's Honda minivan, the lack of smoothness makes me a little sick. I wish I had looked it over more carefully before taking delivery. I should have rejected it.
At this point I'll live with it because I think the factory paint is going to hold up better than any repair. But still I am not happy with it and won't be until the day I can trade it in.
