The vehicle refused to start keyless, so I popped off the start button and used the fob to start it manually. I shut it back off and tried the keyless start again - no go. At one point it said something about a damaged fobik. So I started it manually with the fob again, drove home, and tried it again and it now works.

I see that there was a TSB fix for this issue for 2011 models, but it supposedly didn't need to be done on the 2012. How many others have had this happen to their 2012 or a 2011 after the TSB, and how often? Has the dealer done anything for you? Thanks!
Bbtkd,

As stated in the Owner's Manual, page 29, if your RKE transmitter fails to operate from a normal distance, check for 2 conditions:

1. A weak battery in the RKE transmitter (expected life of the battery is a minimum of 3 years).

Or as mentioned by Coldsteel;
2. Closeness to a radio transmitter such as a radio station tower, airport transmitter, and some mobile or CB radios.

If the concern continues or you feel there is something else causing the issue I would recommend having the vehicle diagnosed by a Dodge dealer. If you would like to review warranty parameters or have any other inquiries feel free to PM me.

I could find one case on this issue for the 2012's. It involves verifying batteries strength and WIN module operation. Copy of case is below.

Case Number: S1208000401
Release Date: 10/20/2012
Symptom/Vehicle Issue:
RKE, Remote Keyless Entry, Range Short, FOBik Operates Intermittently
Discussion:
Some early reports indicate short range operation from the RKE FOBik, operation intermittent at
times.

When I got to the store, did what I had to do, then walk back out to the D, everything worked normally. Not sure what happened.
As I've mentioned before mine does it all the time. Haven't had time to take it to the dealer yet. You don't have to put the key in you can actually just jiggle them around in your pocket and it will start, eventually! LOL!

I don't think it is a weak battery, since we have had the Durango only 6 months, and we rarely use the FOBIKs as remotes. I believe it is down to two possibilities; either there was interference, or we confused it. My wife carries one FOBIK and I carry the other. She approached a front door at about the same time I approached the tailgate, and she probably pulled the handle at about the same time I pushed the unlock button on the tailgate. I could understand where a particular unusual circumstance might confuse it into mis-reading a FOBIK.

As far as interference - this was in front of a Walmart at the edge of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Although there is probably a cell tower within a half mile, this is hardly a high RF area. Plus we've been there dozens of times and never had the issue.

I'll mention it to the dealer when I take it in for the next oil change, but since it has only happened once and they certainly won't be able to reproduce it, I don't expect them to find anything, if they even bother looking.

Bbtkd,

Glad to hear you were able to narrow down the problem to a couple possibilities and that the issue has not presented since. Mentioning it to your Dodge dealer on your next oil change may be a good idea if you are still concerned.

Since you mentioned you are from the U.S, if there is any assistance you need in the future feel free to contact my U.S counterpart, Chris, DodgeCares, or the Customer Care department at 1-800-992-1997.

So, cold day today, locked the truck, came out 20 minutes later, truck was unlocked. I've got to get by my dealer and find out why this thing unlocks itself in cold weather before the wrong person notices it unlocked.

Go through the EVIC options; you may be able to disable the proximity entry so that the doors won't unlock themselves via 'touch'

I have an 04 Dodge Durango. I recently got an after market remote start and alarm installed.... It worked great for a while.

Recently, I started my truck with the remote start and I started fine. When I get in truck and put the key in and push brake to put into gear the truck turns off and I cannot drive. The truck will start with the remote but it seems as though it is not reading my key anymore. There is no other problems with the truck.

I do not know what could be wrong or even how to fix it. Can someone please help?

You may have better luck posting in the 2nd generation Durango forum, since this one is for third generation. You should take your Durango to the installation shop since the aftermarket remote start they installed is failing or improperly installed.

TheBrowns,

I'd have to agree with bbtkd and review with the installation shop.
