Anyone have experience with painting exhaust tips?
I'm hoping to finally get around to tinting my tailights in the next few weeks and was considering doing my exhaust tips black or black chrome to go with my blacked out theme. Obviously I could have them powdercoated but I was thinking about any DIY options you guys might suggest? Thanx in advance!
Don't expect any paint to stick to chrome unless you rough the surface up a bit. Shiny chrome is too slippery and the paint will eventually just flake off.
I was just watching an episode of TRUCKS! on The Powerblock a few days ago and the guys on the show painted a set of headers with Duplicolor high temp paint. They said the real "key" to it was baking them in an oven at around 300* F to cook off all the solvent and chemicals in the paint. They said the steps were on the Duplicolor website. I don't know if your tips are removable but if they are I imagine you could bake them on a crappy cookie sheet in your oven if the 'ol lady don't mind.

CMil, I had my tail lights done about a month ago. Bought the Lamin-X and had a guy in East Brunswick do mine. Turned out great. He's got his own business and may be able to set you up quickly. Let me know if you want his info. The tips...never thought of that, the tips are the only shiny part of the rear.
