Crew AWD a joke??
Only if the user has filled in that information on his profile. You should know that it isn't an auto detect feature.
Tires matter though the OP said the past Jeep had all(no) seasons too. Were they the same types? Obviously some all seasons will be more capable in snowy weather than other.
Also, not all snow is created equal. I have two all wheel drive cars, Audi S4 and Durango R/t, both with excellent winter tires and we get lots of snow. Even with the all wheel drive and winter tires I find traction much harder to come by in some types of snow (usually warmer slushier snow or cold, mixed up well salted snow for some reason) vs say well packed dry snow and just plain old deep snow. Either of these variable could explain the slipping in the D I guess.
So far though I find the Durango’s all wheel drive to be pretty damn good.

I am very pleased with snow performance so far. It seems to do a good job of putting power to the wheels with traction. The GY Fortera is no snow tire but I am very happy with the combination of pavement handling and snow grip. Been driving through a snowy WI winter here. The plow tends to get out before me so only had it in deep snow drifts once. BUt it gets through. The bigger issue in deep snow is the low front fascia.
On uneven pavement it can get pulled a little side to side which can be disconcerting, but better tires with more of an off road or snow purpose would probably fix that.
It does a very good job of taking off on ice compared to other traffic.

its the tires...sorta going out in snow with basketball sneakers vs. snow boots, you can do it but dont expect to have the same performance. big variability in A/S brands and models as well. I actually have Kumho A/S from factory - not great but not bad either. But i can tell you that my old MB sedan with RWD and dedicated Blizzaks did better than the DRT does now with AWD and A/S tires
ok so in the pics im in 3 inches...
Last night driving in 10, AWD works great.
However the Michelin tires SUCK BIG DONKEY DINK!
My GMC Acadia with forteras sucked until I put Bridgestone Duelers on it, once I swapped rubber it was Unstoppable!
So, my take, the D's AWD perfect, the factory rubber, Blows Bigtime!
Michelin has a promise pledge and since my D is a few weeks old I wonder if they would let me swap out tires...
