Default Crew AWD a joke??

Has anyone taken their Durango in any serious snow? I'm curious to know your take on the AWD system. We haven't had more than 2 or 3 inches here, but its enough for me to say the AWD in my 2011 CREW is a bit of a joke. The front tires spin like its a front wheel drive car. I get little or no feedback that the rear tires are pulling at all.

I had a 2000 Grand Cherokee previously, and when I put that thing in 4 wheel drive it would rarely spin the tires even on snow because they were all biting so well.

All season tires on both cars. Good tread.

I'll let you know, we're supposed to get like 10" of snow tomorrow. I hope I'm not sliding around. I used to have a 1998 Ford Explorer AWD...that thing was a tank in the snow!!

I lived in Northern Utah and we've had a couple of storms that came through which dumped 7-8 inches of snow. Drove to work to Salt Lake City during one of the worst storm we've had since moving to Utah 16 years ago, freeway hadn't been cleared at that time....just to let you know the AWD system works I was moving pretty darn good felt a little slip/slide its the cheap GY Fortera tires are the culprit.

Used to own a '03 Nissan Xterra 4X4, never had a problem slipping/sliding....had BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A tires it was awesome driving the Xterra on the snow!

I've got a v6 crew and the factory michelin lattitude tires. It seems to do ok in the snow. Although I haven't really drove in anything over 2 or 3in. I have seen on this forum and others that the factory michelin latitudes suck in the snow. Good tires means just about everything when it comes to traction.

I am looking forward to having some fun tomorrow, we're looking at anywhere from 20-36 inches in boston depending on what forecast you watch.

There hasn't been much snow here this year but between what we've had and what I've been in around Pittsburgh and near Bristol, it did fantastic. It was like a tank, unstoppable and no sliding, even with the admittedly crappy factory goodyears. I even commented to my wife that out of all the 4x4/AWD vehicles we've had through the years I thought this one was the best in the snow.

When commenting on your experience, I think it would help to indicate if you have V6 or the Hemi. If I'm not mistaken the Hemi has a different 4 wheel drive system than the V6 has. The Hemi's may be more like a true 4 wheel drive system which was what was in my old Grand Cherokee, rather than this electronic AWD system the V6 has.

Not sure if they do or not. Note in the header above my comment that I have the Hemi.

On my last suv (Acadia) I had the GY Forteras, crap!

Swapped to Bridgestone Dueler RHS tires, That thing was a snow mobile! It went thru anything!

Now in the D, I have only had it a few weeks, and in the light snow last week it spun, I did notice that from the dealer the tires had 45-48lbs in them... (Dumb!)

It calls for 33lbs, so for this up and coming storm I have 33lbs (checked with my gauge and with the TPS) and I also threw 150lbs of bagged salt in the rear. So we'll see what happens.
18-28" of snow should be a fair test. (what the hell....)

Just check the sig or header it indicates whether the owner has a hemi or a V6.
