2011-2013 Durango Tow Hitch
What did that port for the harness look like?
I put the hitch on and held off on the harness since I just needed to move stuff in the yard. I wanted to make sure I got the best harness possilbe since I noticed some were wired with a hot and some not.
I saw a port available under the area witch had a cap inside. It was about the size of a 7 pin plug.

Great thread guys. I just purchased my new RT this past weekend and realized after I got home I didn't have a receiver hitch!!! I freaked out and was about to return to the dealership and ask for another truck until I saw this thread!!!! I will be placing my order thru the dealership as I can get the same MSRP ($207.00) as the website. My truck is also prewired, so I only need to purchase the 7-4 way adapter.. The part number posted earlier I can not find any info on. I'll ask the dealership once I go back in a couple of days and let you guys know.
thx
thx
I just bought a 2013 R/T model. Really wanting the Class IV Tow package. The truck didn't have a hitch receiver, but am having the dealer install that. Wiring harness was already there (I found it before the deal did). My question is, with the hitch install do I now have the full towing capacity of 7400#? Can't seem to find a straight answer, but noticed that on the other models the towing package lists: heavy-duty engine cooling, rear load leveling suspension, 220 amp alternator & full size spare. At the Dodge website building an R/T model and selecting the tow package, only the harness and the hitch are listed...Does this mean the R/T already has the other stuff? I have a flatbed car trailer that is 1500# and the cars I put on it will be 2000# to 4000# so the base 3500# tow capacity ain't gonna cut it.
I'm interested in getting a dealer-installed hitch as well. My understanding after reading this and other related threads is that the dealer will claim you have the full 7,400 lb rating, even though the manual says you will not.
RE the heavy-duty cooling, I'm thinking that won't be a probem unless you're towing up a grade for elongated periods in the desert. Other than that just keep a close eye on the temp gauge or better yet get a Scangauge so you can monitor the actual coolant temp.
RE the load leveling suspension, I think that if your rear is sagging too much with your trailer you can consider adjusting the trailer to reduce tongue weight. If not you may need to invest in the upgraded rear shocks.

Thanks for the confirmation. You guys confirmed my thinking...and I've already got the onboard sensors with readout right in the dash for the oil temp, coolant temp, trans temp and the like so monitoring will be super easy.
