Default help

Scottina11heat

I am hoping that you can help me. I got a 2012 Durango Citadel with everything except the rear DVD display. I just got the stock display from mopar because the price was right. I also got the remote, two headsets and the cover.I am still hoping that I won’t have to change the rear HVAC controls. My car came with just the rear HVAC controls so I am hoping that I can use that one with the new plastic bezel (cover). The dealers and even mopar are not very helpful. Based on weeks or research I also found out that I will need the rear cover forthe floor console but based on the mopar site that little cover with the AV connectors will run me between 180 and 350. . I think that I won’t need that because I amalso installing the latest lockpick system and I can always run the AV game input via the lockpick system.

I am hoping that your Jeep is a 2011 since the jeeps and Durango use a lot of the same parts for most of the interior electronics. If you are using thestock headphones and remote? Can you tell me where the IR receiver is located?I think is integrated into the rear overhead HVAC control. Mopar part photos and descriptions are useless. The guy from mopar did gave me another part number for the rear HVAC controls based on the vin from a Durango that had thestock DVD system and it is around 60 dollars. I didn’t what to get it just yet in case the IR is located elsewhere and my old HVAC controls will fit in the new plastic bezel. The problem is that anything that I don’t use or can’t use has a re-stocking fee + shipping.

Now the big problem

The guys from mopar can’t find the harness for the display. Mine is the stock display with two large connectors. I believe they connect somewhere near the a-pillar. My radio is the730n RHR and has two large connectors. All the connectors on the rear of the radio are being used. The harness coming from the radio appeared to be going towards the right front of the car. If you car is a 2011 or 2012 can you please send me the two harness part number? That way I can have the mopar guys look them up. He also told me that in some newer cars the harness is glued to the headliner, meaning that I would have to buy the headliner. God knows how much that is. Anyways, I hope that you can help me with the harness (Part Number), the IR receiver location and the mounting bracket part number. I believe that I’ll be able to make it work with just the harness, but I also hoping that I can get the IR working as well..

Thanks in advance.

Moderators...I dont know if anything is wrong with your site but I am missing a bunch of spaces between words. They look normal when I typed them but change, once saved....

Blue,
I ran into the same issue, See "adding in roof entertainment" post, finally decided to go the IPOD head rest mount route, but while searching I found P/N 1GQ78HDAAE, and also some factory monitors with AC controls for sale online, very reasonably priced. The problem was finding the wiring harness. Like you my radio (RHR) has all the sockets used, but I do not know where the cable thats pluged into the external monitor socket on the radio is routed too, and could not find a wiring diagram for it. You may look at wiring harnesses from other makes (like P/N 68004932AA, used in the 11/12/13 minivans with the same monitor). Its frustrating because it looks like all other makes with the RHR have kits available, but not the Durango. I will say though, the kids have been happy with the 2 headrest mounts and 2 used IPOD's we purchased. Good luck.

Can you share those part numbers (trailer hitch and harness)?

I believe that the first number that you gave me is for the DVD kit. I already have the Display, remote and headphones. The cover or bezel should be here hopefully tomorrow. When I first started looking into it (Last Year), the display alone was $900 at the Mopar store. Right nowthey have it for around $550. The big piece of the puzzle is missing the harness. Based on the many hours researching this thing, I believe that the display harness goes from the display to the A-Pillar. I hate to take the headliner down twice but I believe that I have no choice. I will take it down sometime this week to see where it goes. I will be doing a full post of my install if I am able to do it. Before I purchased the stock display I wanted to do it on the headrest but thanks to the active restrain system it is impossible. I’ve saw the players that you can put behind the headrest but IMO they are bulky and ugly. I am hoping that Scottina11heat will reply soon with the harness part number that he use on his 2011 jeep.

Thanks for the second number. I have two more similar numbers from another forum on a minivan. The minivan harness is at around $125. The one you gave me is around $60 or so. I am going to call the one guy from Mopar that is currently helping me and maybe he can use those numbers as reference. He told me that he got many calls in regards to thesame issue, so If I can figure out I’ll be helping other customers. Aftermarket units are fine but they will never look as good as the factory unit, again IMO.

I amalso hoping that the IR receiver is located somewhere on the radio area or in the other rear HVAC control that the Mopar guy gave me, that control is also around $60. I will ask him tomorrow if he can verify that. I am not worry about the headphones and the remote because I can always control it from the radio, so I can always return them. The display is the one thing that I would like to keep stock. It would be nice if Icould get it all working but I settle for that.

I am also going to ask him about the floor console rear cover. I am hoping that I can get just the cover for a fair price, but I am not paying $300 for just the cover. I can always integrate new AVconnectors on the cover that I have now just above the AC outlet and plug it into the lockpick (Currently out of stock). I can't wait until I get it. I could always make my own harness but it is impossible because I can’t find any diagrams on the 2012 or 2011 Durango’s. I even got a subscription to the AllDATAdiy.com and they have no wiring diagrams listed. It is amazing how there aren’t many Durango owners trying to do this mod. Again, thanks for your info.I am not one that quits easily. I like a challenge.

Check the link below. This guy did it to his minivan and IMO it was twice as hard. He did an excellent job...

I called the dealer today and the rep told me that since mycar came without a display that it was impossible to add the stock model. In my opinion, that is such BS. Why is itthat American car companies do things like this? My wife aunts recently got aKia minivan and she can go to the Kia website and after registering her car sheis able to view the service manual in it’s entirely, FREE. That’s right FREE..I just bought a one year subscription to AlldataDiy.com to view my service manualand they have nothing in regards to any electrical diagrams. They don’t even have the battery listed.

Anyways, I don’t understand the problem here. All the 2012 Durango’sare pretty much the same except for a few accessories. This is why I don’t understandthe reason why Dodge or any other car company do things like this. If the carowner wants to spend whatever amount of money adding factory accessories totheir car, then why can’t they. If we are willing to pay the price, they shouldallow it. The dealer guy then told methat they could run wires to the display and radio but that the starting pricetag for something like that would start at around 800 dollars. What? The bottomline, this comes down to a single word. GREED. I am not giving up. I reallybelieve that all I need is just one harness. I found one that I believe is theone in another forum so I am waiting for the guy that did that mod to reply.Hopefully he will have good news and I can finish my project. The time is tickingsince I only have 30 days to return all of the items, take a hit on shippingand re-stocking fee and then buy an after marked unit.

Default Buzzing sound from base of windshield - 2014 Durango

So has anyone figured out a good fix for the gap between the plastic/rubber cowl and base of the windshield? I taped the 2 gaps near the wipers and the sound quit. I tried double face tape under the rubber portion of the cowl but it pulled up a day later.

There are other threads on the buzzing noise on several forums. Seems to come down to the panel on the dash that covers the center speaker or the windshield washer fluid hose that routes near the driver's side hood hinge. I'm not sure where those threads are right this second, but guys have posted pics for both. One guy put pieces of this rubber or something under the edges of the dash panel. Others have used tape or zip-ties to secure the washer fluid hose.

Default Buzzing sound from base of windshield - Durango

Anyone got any pointers on where to look for this noise (I see a thread down below about a noise I will be checking on when done posting this) or any towing tips?
A follow up to buzzing sound at the base of the windshield at speeds over 60. We found the noise on a customer's 2014 Durango to be the warped cowl (in three places) that made the rubber flap 'stick up' leaving a gap where it should touch the windshield. The air turbulence makes the rubber vibrate like the reed of a clarinet. The best fix was to remove the cowl panel (remove wipers and the plastic cowl clips down in the middle and clips into the fenders on the sides) then we used a heat gun on the warped areas bending the plastic until it was close to flat again. Not sure how long this remedy will work. Depends on how much the vehicle sits in the sun I guess. Also note these rubber parts are loaded with greasy mold release material so pretty much no adhesive tape or glue will stick to these parts so there is no way to just stick it down from the back side. Hope this helps.
