Towing Tips
I have a 2011 AWD with a 5.7 Hemi, curious what suggestions/ideas some of you all have for getting best MPG from your experiences towing. I have a boat that dry weight is 2,700lbs and round trip to the lake is about 50miles. When/if do you use Tow/Haul Mode? Thanks for your time and help.

5.7 liter V8, 360 HP, 5000lb vehicle, at least 2700lbs towing.........not going to be great I can tell you that! Although that's really not a lot of weight for the D and the Hemi. I bet you can probably get 13 on the highway with it. If its a really flat highway. I wouldn't count on anymore than that though. You will have plenty of power. Use the tow/haul mode. Personally I wouldn't worry about mpg's only going 50miles.

I'll bet you won't need tow/haul mode unless you're hitting a big mountain. I'vel hauled my 5,000 lb Airstream in hilly areas and didn't need it. Only use it if the tranny is searching for the right gear. Easy starts and stops, the wind will really show it's effect over 60. That said, I get about 12 mpg.

I tow a 5000lb boat/trailer combo (has a wake tower) with our RWD Hemi and I'm averaging 13 mpg, maybe even 14, in tow/haul mode. And we probably average 50 miles each way to our various local boating destinations.
The single biggest noticeable difference I found is always using a trailering rated full boat cover. Without out, I might loose 1-3 mpg, depending on speed.
As a plus, it's just easier at the ramp. I don't need to worry about cleaning up. We just put on the cover and head home.
