Default 2011 R/T Push Start Problem

I had to pop the push start button out and am now using the manual key. Kind of irritating since leaving the FOB in your pocket is nice, anyway. The FOB wasn't working and I couldn't get the D started so once I popped the button out and then tried to put it back in and push start, I get a 'damaged key' message. Anyone have this issue before?

I'm out of my 36K warranty and don't want to pay for them to "fix" something if anyone else can help me figure it out. Appreciate the help.....

Check/replace the battery in the FOBIK?

I would check the fobik battery first as suggested above.

If he's over 36k miles and has never done it, it is quite likely the issue. If it's older than a year, it should just be replaced and no point in testing it (difficult to test anyway).

Here's the other issue, I've replaced the batteries in each key three times now since I got the D in July 2011. Both lasted the first year with no issues. The second year (after changing batt) until now the key response is all over the place. Sometimes I'll have to hit a button to open/close repeatedly until I get a response from any distance up until I'm right up to the door.

Why I waited so long? The second year was intermittent ever y once in a while so I didn't need to take it in necessarily. Prob should have. In any case.

I thought it was one key working better than the other until I changed batt the last time and the one that had issues is now good and the other decided to take a crap. It was very convenient the first year but now the FOBS and the push start is a headache!!!

Dealer says, at least $250 in labor to "figure out" the problem?!?!? Thought I'd ask the forum first. Thanks!

If the keyless works to open and the FOBIK works to start without the button, but your getting a key damaged message, it might be that the WIN module is not working properly.

The WIN is what reads and continually monitors for the presence of the FOBIK.

I believe that it can be reprogrammed if your having key issues, but if the module is dead, which is hard to believe, that may be pricey.

I remember when I got my D that I was asking the salesman on you to reset thenoio change light and he kept giving me the wrong info that it wound up leading me down to removing the button to use the key in the ignition......Ihad no idea and it caught me by surprise anyways when iI stuck the key in it told me that the battery in my key was low right off the back. So maybe it isn't a battery issue ?
