Favorite dealer service horror story
I don't have my D yet but I started reading yelp reviews of my local dealer, I don't think I'll go there even for warranty work after reading the countless horror stories. Here's my favorite though I just had to share:
"This is a true story of how I narrowly escaped a $740 bill for the replacement of a $30 part at Walnut Creek Chrystler Jeep:
My Grand Cherokee wouldn't start. I towed it to WCCJ. After running diagnostics, they told me that my Jeep had major electrical problems, and that it would cost $740 to repair them (I still have the invoice). I didn't have $740, so I told them that I would have the car towed from their lot.
Later that day, I showed up with a tow truck to take my car. One of the workers retrieved my car by driving it to the front lot where i stood. WTF? My car wasn't running when it arrived. The lead mechanic ran to my car, quickly opened the hood, and removed a small part, shutting off the engine.
"What the hell was that?" I asked. "I thought my car wouldn't start."
"Oh, this is ours. I can't let you have it." He looked nervous.
"Well, what is it? It obviously got my car running."
"It's an ignition coil. But you're going to have to buy your own. This is the shop's."
"Is that all I needed, a new ignition coil?"
Now he was really nervous. "Well, yes, but there might be other problems with..."
I walked to an auto parts store, bought an ignition coil for $30, and installed it (2 bolts on the side of the engine block; so easy!). My car started up instantly and ran perfectly for 2 years until I needed a new fuel pump.
Shame on you WCCJ!"

Maybe I'm the spoiler but I've never really had an issue with a stealership. Hourly rates are higher than my local mechanic but I'm more comfortable with the dealer for engine or tranny work. I have a fairly strong mechanical background so maybe that helps?
For what? Damages? Let's see $30 for the coil and $65/day for a rental. That $95 about half of what a lawyer would've charge for an hour of listening to the guy carp about the lousey service.
Yes, write a letter to Dodge and the dealership, but better yet do exactly what he is doing -- telling everyone he knows about the crappy service the dealer provided.
And then find a new mechanic and tell the dealership what you did as you walk away laughing at them.

I agree.

Attempting Deceit and FRAUD...They could have paid causing emotional stress, cost of not required tow truck. The list could go on. Not enough money to Break their back but enough to cause them some damage morally and just enough as principle matter.

Not really a horror story, but really epitomizes what is wrong with some dealerships. I bought my D from a dealership somewhat inconvenient from my house. It takes about 35 mins one way to get there. The reason I went there was the salesman at the dealership was recommended by a friend of mine and worked a good deal. There is a dealership 15 mins from my house. So shortly after I bought the D, I ordered a set of mud guards from this dealership. When I picked them up I went to the sevice department and explained to the service advisor that I just bought a new D from another dealer but would like to bring it there for service. I also explained that I bought an extended warranty. The service advisor looked me straight in the face and said they recommend to take it back where i bought it. Really? Do you mean to tell me you are going to turn down 10 years of service department revenue and the potential for a new car buyer down the road? Unbelievable.
