FLOWMASTER CAT-Back System
Not trying to start a Flowmaster vs. Magnaflow/Borla/Dynaflow/etc...WAR !!!
OPTION #1: Flowmaster American Thunder 409 Stainless Steel (Part 817564) which Flowmasters calls it "MODERATE" sound tone. This unit has only two (2) rear mufflers/resonators (located by the rear bumper with chrome 4" tips). System estimated weight: 60 lbs. Best price I found was $730.15 with free shipping. (Less $80.00 rebate from Flowmaster until 8-31-13) Total cost $650.15.
OPTION#2: Flowmaster Force II 409 Stainless Steel (Part#817651) which Flowmasters calls "MILD" sound tone. This unit has both rear mufflers/ resonators by the rear bumper with 4" chrome tips, plus two (2) resonators/mufflers by the stock "suitcase" location. System estimated weight: 80 lbs. Apparently this is a newly released model and the best price I have found was $1059.99 with free shipping. (Less $80.00 rebate from Flowmaster until 8-31-13). Total cost $979.99.
BTW,Magnaflow has a similar unit (Part #15068) for $1,219.88 free shipping.
I prefer OPTION #1 because of the price, but do not want to experience inside cabin drone noise. Anyone in the forum has any experience with the Flowmasters units?

I did not know of the second newly listed system available for the DD's. I hope they tweaked the fitment issues many on here have complained about with the American Thunder kit. I'm going to check this new one out now....

Ok, checked it out and have several questions too:
1. they use a 60 Series muffler which states on their web site its not 409s stainless and only comes in a 2.25" inlet/outlet yet the system is advertised as a 2.5" system.
2. Also the 60 series is listed as a Mod/Mild muffler for 4/6 cylinder engines?
3. Why didn't they use the Super 50 Series muffler which is a Mod/Mild muffler designed for the SUV market?
4. check out this link to YouTube:
This advertisement shows they use the Super 50 Series mufflers on the system but one their site it says they use 60 series???????? Website link: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?p...7651&x=12&y=10

Love the sound on my Flowmaster system but nice to see they added a system with resonators as well to tone down the interior drone at some points... I don't find it to be a problem but wifey hates it sometimes! Figment has its issues as well but for under $650 from performancepeddler.com I couldn't pass it up!
I love my American Thunders with my Flowmaster! No one complains about the sound inside the cabin, on long trips is helps put the kids to sleep lol! I think after a year, we're all used to it. I miss it when we are on vacation in a quiet rental.
So, I sent an email to Flowmaster the other day about my questions I listed above and today I received a response from them. They agreed that the Youtube video in wrong showing the system has the Super 50 muffler and in fact it has a custom made 60 series muffler designed and made for the DD. They should send me a system for catching the error. HAHA
They are pretty good. My 2008 non SS American Thunder was pretty rusted at 2.5 years old. The tip actually bent down on a return ski trip. I called they asked for receipt and they agreed to ship a SS version as a replacement.

Hey, AKFinest, did you buy the Force II system? I've been looking at that system for the exact reasons you were. I wanted to reduce weight, increase sound (some) and reduce back pressure, but didn't want to add any sort of drone or resonance, particularly when the car goes into 4 cylinder mode. I have heard some complaints in this regard with the American Thunder system on other sites. So, am really interested in fit and sound with the new Force II system from Flowmaster.
I just put on the SS 2.5 American Thunder Kit, Paid around $650 shipped from performancepeddler.
The system bolted on with a perfect fit, no rattles ect.
I did have to shorten the metal sleeves/spacers that were supplied for the main bolts about 1/4" so the factory donut gaskets would tighten properly.
I like the sound and do not think it drones to loudly and its doesn't sound loud when 4cyl mode kicks in like I have read on other threads, (just my opinion)
I have the same system on my wife's 07 RT Charger and its a bit louder on her car due to not having as much sound deadening material as the Durango underneath.
I have no regrets, great system.....
