I forget if we discussed this long ago, but considering all the space the Alpine subwoofer takes up in the cargo area, the bass response from it is pitiful. Is there any way (short of replacing it or the entire system!) to open up and tune the sub for better performance? I realize you have the dash equalizer, but the cut off on that seems to be a lot higher, and thus affects all the speakers in the car.

 

Nope. It stinks. I removed the factory sub, built a box for a jl 8w3 in its spot so it all looks stock till you take the cargo area apart.

Have you done the "turn the mid eq" down trick?

 

Yeah, I tried that and it helps a little. It makes little sense that the Alpine unit takes up so much space and has such poor capability. I think you might get just as good a bass response out of the door speakers themselves...

On your eq, turn bass up to 7-9, mid down to negative 6-9

I have my mid on -7 and bass on +3 or +4 and it is plenty of bass for me.
I used to always put subs in my vehicles but mayby I am growing out of that...

 

Did this, and it still is crappy.

Why is it that we cannot control this system like any other stereo system with subs and amp's? I am sure this so called 500+ watt system is not even close to it's full potential.

My headphones put out more bass than this "Factory" system, and my Journey had more bass with the built in sub that was a 8" woofer.

I put bass on 7 mids -3 and highs all the way up. Keep in mind it is only a 8" sub with not alot if power going to it, the total system is only 509w and that's for 10 speakers so not getting much power, it's suppose to be more of a sq system not a ground pounding system

 

I toyed with it a bit more and found that it did change the sound and bass level. I was told that these were 10" subs in the "upgraded" radios. I am finding that the more the dealer said my vehicle had something the more it does not.

I just would have thought that since this radios system (730N) is so expensive, we would get better sound quality and maybe even a real built in 7 band equalizer in the radio. For the price of this unit and speakers, I could have put a pounding system in aftermarket and still have change...lol

Maybe they will have the beats by Dre system in the 2014? I have heard that system is more than efficient.
