Default Roof Rattle

Really annoying rattle in my roof, right behind the driver's seat, centered between the DVD player and the left edge of the roof. This is on a '12 Citadel. So loud you could hear it over the radio. Passengers would comment and ask what's wrong with your truck?

Called the dealer last week, they couldn't fit me in until tomorrow, Wednesday.

Anyone else had this? I'll let you all know what the dealer says tomorrow.

Update on the roof rattle. What a donkey show. The dealer definitely heard the noise as it has become ridiculously loud. I told dealer that it sounded like it was coming from the headliner and if you put your hand on the headliner just behind the driver on the corner of the sun roof it stops. One of the service guys, not the one that was helping me, overheard us and pulled up a TSB on this issue that involved replacing the headliner clips around the sunroof.

The service rep that was helping me insisted it was the roof rack so after keeping it a day, they called and said they would have to order a new roof rack. A week later I had not heard back so I called and the service guy said it had "just arrived." (what a coincidence). So they scheduled an appointment for me another week later.

They put in the roof rack, which took all day, and called that it was ready. I went to pick it up and they assured me the issue was resolved. Driving it off the lot it was already making the noise. I pushed up on the headliner near the sunroof and it popped. A clip apparently went back in place. The noise stopped completely. A couple of miles later I heard it pop out and the noise resumed so I pushed it again. It will pop into place but won't stay there.

I have not taken it back to the dealer yet, they've already wasted three days of my life and a good bit of Chrysler's money on this. Hoping for resolution soon, before the noise makes me lose my mind.

Take it back! take it back! chanting at the top of my lungs ! LOL

show the service manager what you discovered and reference the TSB about the issue and don't forget to tell him how the service writer was wrong and waisted time and money. If he gives you the blow off call Dodge Care's direct and tell them, they really hate when they get calls from them it effects they ratings as a dealer and service dept.

I actually just dealt with this myself. They thought the noise was coming from the rear a/c control panel attached to the headliner. Long story short, they replaced it and it still made noise.

I ended up removing the rear driverside air vent from the headliner, Reached in there and added some foam padding between the headline and the roof. Noise has stopped. I determined the noise was coming from the headliner bumping against the dip in the roof line right behind the fromt seats.

Thanks, I'll look at that. I've been trying to stay hands off and letting them deal with it but that's clearly not getting me anywhere.

-OK, sit in your drivers side passenger seat and look up. You will see the circular vent.
-Rotate the vent and pull down.
-I used a piece of yoga mat foam and folded it to be about 1"-2" thick or so.
-Pull down on the headliner carefully so not to bend it and insert your shop rag, yoga mat, etc. into the right hand side, ensuring you are not blocking your vent (You will see a space around a magnetic bracket that you can place it between the headliner and roof)
-Replace the vent and viola! No more noise!

This just creates enough gap between the headliner and roof to ensure the headliner cannot rattle against the roof. I also made sure that my foanm was not in contact with the back of the dome light to keep it safe

Wife's 2011 DD R/T ( no roof rack ) had same problem. Dealer thought it was sunroof shade, maybe the slide for it, jammed foam somewhere in headliner about 18 months ago, still quiet.

The Durango spent another day at the dealer yesterday. This time they replaced the headliner clips and the track for the sunroof. I guess this is the first time in 30k miles that it's been this quite. Seems the finally have it fixed. The dealer called me to let me know the vehicle was read to pick up and there was a BUT. The BUT was that they had broken one of the coat hangers and had to order a replacement that won't be in till Saturday so I left with a hole in the ceiling but at least everything is quite now. The sunroof shade slides differently than it ever has before. It looks like this may have been an issue from the factory.

Glad I stayed on it and got it worked out.
