Ha ha Steve that's great. The VW in the photo gallery is the best. Just posing on the beach with my Most Unreliable Car. One of the few things consumer reports is good at. Collecting and compiling complaints to destroy a vehicle but portraying it so they don't get sued.

I've been a Consumer's Report reader for about 40 years and, as intended, I use them -- along with other stuff -- as a guide for my major purchases. Forty years of experience tells me Kenmore and Craftsman products are almost bulletproof, Korean TVs and cars have improved immensely over the years, some advertisers outright lie in their commercials, and, though broccoli is good for you, I still won't touch the stuff.
In fact it was CR that lead me to buying the DD. I'd seen snippets of good news for the DD elsewhere, and then checked it out on Edmunds, where it got very good ratings. From there I went to CR which actually recommended it which was a huge surprise. After a test drive and some visual inspections we bought a used DD.
Happy, happy, happy. :-)

Let's not get too cocky. The Durango V6 was just knocked off the recommended list because of engine woes. Presumably the head issue prevalent in the '11 and maybe '12s? Reliability was dropped from good to fair. Below most of the GM and Korean utes.

And I don't agree with Ford getting bashed by CR for reliability due primarily to My Ford Touch. Does it really mean the car is unreliable if the infotainment system is confusing and slow, and maybe hangs up once in a while? I personally don't think so.

It is getting bashed because it has inflated economy ratings for all those listed. If you talk to anyone from our local Ford dealer they have at least 50 cars there with eco boost problems as well

Nope. If you look at each model's detailed reliability ratings they're not getting black marks for economy or engine. For Explorer, Edge, Fusion etc. the only black mark they get is under "Audio" (Fusion also gets a "fair" under "power equipment", whatever that means) - all other categories get red marks (good or excellent) and yet they give those models a poor overall reliability rating and don't recommend them.

It's not right.

You are right, and no, they are not right. My Ford Touch is certainly a concern, but that takes little away from the Ford Explorer. It's a fine car and I almost pulled the trigger on one if they hadn't reneged on the deal. Ultimately it's not as refined (in ride or materials) as the D, but it's a solid vehicle. This is typical Consumer Reports stuff -- garbage.

And I've also glanced at CR as a guide, but I don't give it much credence. I purchased a year subscription once many years ago, and quickly learned what they were all about. After that I saved my money.

I went and test drove a '14 SHO. All I can say is boo! I can't believe how such a large car can be so crampt inside and also how so many ponies, as much as my Hemi with a lot less weight, can feel so slow.

I spent about 15 minutes with it, got out, shook the sales rep's hand, thanked him for his time and walked off.

Just for the record, wasn't trading my DD in, was looking to sell my Mustang - which I did, took it to carmax.
