2013 Rear overhead console rattle
Have a 2013 Crew with an annoying rattle in the rear overhead console. Dealer fixed, said clip was undone. Good for a month or so and started again. I called and asked how to remove and fix it myself, they said it's not removable just push up on it to set the clip again. Again ok for a short time and rattling again, dealer said entire roof material has to be removed to fix it. Thinking that's just going to lead to more issues and rattles. Any one have any fixes out there before I let them tear into it?
This has to be one of the biggest complaints with the latest gen3 Durango. This and the V6 cylinder head failure. I have not had the head smoking issue with my V6 now at 18,000mi. I did however have the ceiling rattle that plain and simple, became annoying. I posted my response to this sometime in a past thread. The problem, like "fishandgrits" states is fixable with some patience and foam. I chose to remove the second row map/reading light fixture to gain access. My rattle noise was mostly coming from the right side of the rear temp control panal. It appeared to me that the ceiling is held in place by (magnetic?) clips that must get weak after a bit of time. Once I carefully undid the lens cover, two screws, and unclipped the power wire, I now had a small access point. I did not want to stress the working clips the from the ceiling, so I elected to carefully stuff some foam and used some double-sided velcro tape in a few places. It was a trial and error thing over a day or two but I resolved the noise issue using only these materials. Once you are comfortable that's it gone, button the light fixture back up. It's been over a year since I did this procedure and all is still quiet. Good Luck

Just went through multiple attempts to solve this exact rattle situation with my '12. Replaced clips twice, for some reason they replaced the roof rack, and oddly they had it fixed except for a broken coat hanger they damaged while working on it. Once they replaced the coat hanger which they had to order, the rattle was back like they had never worked on it. One thing I discovered is that there are these little patches of velcro that appear to hold the headliner to the various bits of metal and frame work around the sunroof. If you get on your knees on the drivers seat and look between the headliner and the roof around the sunroof, you will see them. The two pieces of velcro will not stay attached to each other and as they move they sound exactly like a rattle. You can recreate the sound by pressing on the headliner while looking at the two pieces of velcro. There are several of these around the sunroof and the air vents.
As others have described, if you will take a bit of foam or fabric with at least a little bit of thickness, maybe a 1/4 inch at most, and put it between these bits of velcro it will stop the issue, at least, it did in my case.
Good luck.

Dealer replaced the entire headliner in my '12 RT. Havent had that morse code noise since...now if they can only find what is rattling in the front dash...I swear, I'm about to get rid of this thing and move on to something else. Love the looks, but the fit and finish leave a lot to be desired
