I would first confirm that the shift linkage was operating correctly if you cant get into any gear or possibly your torque converter failed. If you can get under the truck check to see if the driver side shift linkage is attached. There would be a steel link attached to a locking tab have someone move the shift lever and confirm that it operates. Make sure your fluid level is correct But with a CEL it sounds like you need service bud, the linkage alone wouldn't set the light.

I don't know what happened but the service guys called and there are pieces of the transmission in the pan. They are finding out if it is a rebuild or replace. I have never had this big of a repair on any of my other vehicles and I am wondering what could have caused this @ only 40k. I have read about issues with the transmissions of other durangos but not failures. This is also really bad timing as we travel to visit family during the Christmas break and this is our only vehicle (work where we live no commute) $%*& this sucks... I am so bummed.

You are under warranty, they should give you a rental to get you by. Ask for an equivalent vehicle.

Neither the Dealer or Dodge customer service will give me a loaner or rental... I understand that a major problem could happen with any car manufacturer and it is really an outlier but how they deal with that problem really either keeps you a customer for life or turns you away from them forever... under the drivetrain warrenty there is no coverage for rental or loaner, How is this possible? Through no fault of your own the car is not drivable yet they will not get you a loaner. This is freaking $40k vehicle not a $10k one. I really love the Durango but a blown transmission and bad customer service at only 40,000 miles maybe it is time to look at different options. Come on Dodge you are loosing a customer.

Dont feel bad my good friend has an 11 Ranger Rover Sport that he paid almost 85k for and he just blew the transmission at 15k miles. No rental or loaner for him either. He could have bought 2 Durangos and kept 1 for when the other broke down.

Last year, I was given a paid rental car on my 08 Saturn Aura on the GM 5 year powertrain warranty when replacing a water pump around 75K miles

Thanks, with some help from the forum Dodge reconsidered and is kindly giving me a rental. I really do appreciate it, since we are a one car family. Hopefully I will be back in my Durango in time to visit family during the holidays.

Glad its working out for you. Most powertrain warranties exclude rental but I would just camp out in
the dealer lobby until they gave me one. Push comes to shove. It's very rare to have internal trans damage that early but it does happen. Keep us posted on what they replaced, thanks
