Default Removing 3rd row in 2014

Hi All,

I did a search and saw some great specs on removing the console, but has anyone got any instructions / thoughts on removing the third row from the 2014. No kids and no need for it 99.999% of the time, so I'd like the room.

Thanks

I don't think you can remove the seats and have any kind of flat usable surface to slide stuff on it. Just my guess though.

Personally, if I didn't need the 3rd row from time to time I would have gotten a Jeep GC.

We don't necessarily need the space to be flat, we want to be able to put bicycles in and out and lots of gear in there. Flat is not the the most necessary thing for us. I know we can flip the 2nd row up so that gives us some room, but the bike seats and tires would fit great in the "well" created. we have an Xterra and love the height, with the jeep we get neither the length or height, with the Durango we get the length and if the rear seats come out, it solves part of our issue.

MJnewman will chime in. He has removed his entire interior and will give you the heads up.

Just something to keep in mind: on a number of the 3 row SUVs, the third row provides structural rigidity for the vehicle. The law enforcement versions don't have a 3rd row and if needed, there's usually a bolt on crossbar that adds the necessary rigidity that you otherwise lose by permanently removing that row. I'd do some research to see if it's necessary before pulling that row.

Look up 2011 durango Heat, they came without the third row seats. Their is four parts you need to buy to replace the seats with a floor. Two of the parts are about 200 bucks. Load floor cargo cover 1RG72DX9AB and 1SK27DX9AB. I cant find the other two part numbers and the two above are color specific. The dealer parts department can pull all the parts by color and what all is needed. If its around 400 total I might do this with my truck. Love my DD but have zero need for row three.

Try this link for a photo of the back. It has two under floor cargo areas.

Scottina had one if I remember correctly. He can chime in with facts.

Best bet is to remove the 4 nuts holding in seat. Simple wood plank will cover area for you. I'm unsure if you'll need a support at the front or rear. But a 90º attachment would be easy to make. Also, autozone carrys automotive carpet thats a very close to stock. I used it on my first audio setup. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I didn't think it was easy. Any idea how I would know if this is a structural issue? Putting a bar across the back wouldn't be a problem if I needed it, I'm sure I can make it work, but not sure how I would know.
Would a dealer / mechanic be able to tell me?

The funny thing is I don't really want the storage areas. I want to be able to take my front wheel of my bike and sit the whole thing in there without having to move the seat, etc.. The issue is height, but we'll see.
