PM'd you the details for the oil change SLAINTE.

As far as the plastic bag trick, that never works for me. The oil creates a slick between the bag and filter and the filter and it becomes more of a mess for me. I always used gloves and a good size catch, no mess.

Just changed mine and it's gotta be the messiest oil change that I've done so far in my life. There is no need to raise up the truck you can fit in your arm without reaching too far, just gotta feel your way, I took a picture with my phone so I could see where things where.

I gotta try the bag trick, thanks for that hint!

It's also a good time to swap out the OEM drain plug for a magnetized plug to see if anything inside the engine is committing suicide.

Ok, isn't there a saying about doing the same thing twice and expecting different results?

Change oil notice came on at 13.5k and I think to myself, I can do this better.......

Went pretty well until I tried the plastic bag on the filter trick that was recommended. Right as the filter comes off the bag collapses around my hand and redirects the oil in a hundred plastic bag channels....result was same with oil all over drive way. I believe it's not just the oil from the filter but that there is also a pocket of oil that sits in a spot above the filter.

Oh well

It takes some finesse to keep the mess to a minimum. Using a gallon size ziplock and pushing it as high above the filter helps. Also, throwing in a couple paper towels will soak up oil, keep the back standing and give you grip on the filter to spin it.

Well, now I'm not looking forward to my 2nd oil change.

I wonder if there's a way to put a heavy duty rubber band or something similar up there so the bag stays up over the filter to avoid what you encountered. It would be so much easier, IMO, if the access hole allowed you to get two hands up there instead of just one.

Changed mine last week. I decided to use Steves gallon ziplock bag instead of my tried and true "cover everything with tinfoil" it worked like a charm. Didn't spill a drop. I duct taped a paper towel to the filter for grip and kept pressure on the bottom of the bag so it wouldn't slip. Just twisted the whole filter, bag combo and pulled it straight down. Last time I jacked the truck up. This time just drove up an 2x4s covered in some old carpet so they don't slide on the garage floor.
Thanks Steve.
