Default FOB Battery?

Anyone else had to replace the battery in their key FOB? I've replaced mine twice already. Fortunately, I haven't had any of the issues others have with starting, locking, etc. It just seems strange to me to have replaced the battery twice in two years. I have never replaced it in other vehicles I've owned. Something is obviously a constant drain on it. The first time the truck was running and I got a 'No Key Detected' indication on the dash. I was concerned it was going to shut off or something, but it didn't. The second time the dash indicator told me that the key battery was low. Luckily, it is a cheap fix (under $4.00).

Do you happen to leave the keys in your truck? I've heard that if you do that you will end up draining the battery like crazy since the fob is constantly in radio contact with the truck.

Hmmmm, I do leave them in the truck quite a bit. It is always in the garage and I hate getting the 'key not detected' when I get in it to go to work and the keys are in the house...LOL Guess I will just have to get used to them being in the house...

I've had the same issues and have twice asked the dealer to replace the fob battery while I had it in for something else. Both times they said it was not the fob battery, that there was a programming updated that needed to be done and they did it.

One day I drove it to work, about 5 miles, with the dash saying "Key not detected". It hasn't done that since the dealer reprogrammed whatever they reprogrammed, but it does still occasionally say "Key not detected" when I first go to crank it. Only for a second then goes away.

I've still not replaced the fob battery.

I had the same thing happen to my Charger and RAM key fob, found out I was placing them in my pocket next to my bill fold, which had a magnet. The magnet drained the batteries. lol

It's for those "special" occasions.
