2014 Questions
I'm thinking of getting a 2014 Citadel and have a few questions. I have a 2011 and it runs great.
- I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there are new gremlins to be concerned with on the 2014, particularly given the new tranny and all the new electronics in it?
- Does the 2014 entertainment system have a hard drive to store music and pictures?
- Is there anyway to watch two movies at once on the rear entertainment screens?
- I heard that the DVD player is now in the center armrest and takes up all the storage, is that correct?
- Does anyone have good/bad info about the 2015 that might make me wait or not?
Thanks for any help!

To answer your questions:
- I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there are new gremlins to be concerned with on the 2014, particularly given the new tranny and all the new electronics in it? V6 or Hemi? They are both zf transmissions but the Hemi's is built by them and the V6's is assembled in house (chrysler). The jury is still out on this one...my wife just had a strange transmission incident where it may or may not have popped out of gear but may have been an accidental paddle shifter situation. Overall, I have not heard of anything in particular.
- Does the 2014 entertainment system have a hard drive to store music and pictures? It does NOT have a hard drive but with USB ports and a memory card slot it isn't missed.
- Is there anyway to watch two movies at once on the rear entertainment screens? Yes, both screens can be independent. You just need to provide the additional input (via RCA jacks or HDMI port). There is only a single disc blu-ray / DVD player in the center console (under armrest).
- I heard that the DVD player is now in the center armrest and takes up all the storage, is that correct? See above. You are still left with storage space but the player does eat up about half the space.
- Does anyone have good/bad info about the 2015 that might make me wait or not? Chances are there will be no real differences between the two. The only real benefit of waiting at this point would be for the chance of scooping up a 2014 at a discounted rate once the 2015's are available.
The previous responses are just my .02's. I own a 2014 V6 AWD Citadel with blu-ray and have been impressed overall. My only real gripe has to do with the paint. Dodge has had some issues with the GCM paint coverage so I would caution you about selecting that color. Otherwise...happy shopping!

I also have a 2011 Citadel and went looking at the 2014 R/T this past week. All above mentioned by TVo-2 is correct to answer your question. I am having second thought about the storage compartment space loss. Out storage compartment is full now so losing that space would create issues, especially sincve we stor the headphones in there. You also lose the second top compartment as well as losing half or more of the bottom compartment.
We can get the second row console and that would help with the storage though, but you make the Durango a 6 passanger. So drawbacks in a few areas for us.

Thanks for the updates.
The lose of storage is really a big deal. The whole idea of a car like this is to take a lot of stuff with you -- little stuff too. My upper armrest compartment is full of stuff that needs to be out of sight, and the lower one is usually full of DVDs, cameras, and snacks for the kids. Not sure where all that can go on a 2014.
BTW: I keep the headphones in the rear door pockets where the kids can get them easily.
And I guess the HD isn't a big deal. You can put all your music on an SD card and then just take it with you when you're done with the car. That's probably better than a HD.
I may be mistaken, but I thought some vehicles come with a DVD player behind each rear screen?
I will probably wind up with the V8, but wonder if the new 8 speed tranny helps the V6 feel any more powerful than before?
I'm not a huge fan of these big TFT screens, but I guess they are cheaper now than plastic buttons. But sometimes it's a real benefit to have direct access to a real button without having to page through screens. And of course the DVD player used to need a dash mechanism to get to it. That was also costly. Throwing a box in the storage compartment is cheap.

I know it sounds petty, but if it weren't for the storage issues, I'd probably pull the trigger in a minute for a '14. As it is, I'll have to convince myself. All the interface issues I can learn to live with, but I can't create space that isn't there.
One of the other guys on here made a very good point several months ago. Why buy the entertainment system when its cheaper to buy two iPads, and load them full of movies for your kids. years down the road when you get rid of the Durango you still have the iPads.

Yeah I opted to pass on the entertainment system, mainly because no kids and most of the time no one is in the back but saving the storage space was most important. I installed a in dash nav, dvd, full screen panasonic system in my last vehicle and I used the dvd\cd player once I think. I store everything on ipods, iphones, flash memory etc. The bluetooth connection to play music with my S4 is pretty decent, get some interference and skipping now and then but the ease of use is really nice. I also have flash memory loaded and it plays great but it doesn't read all of my .flac files. Some are pretty large and not sure if there is a size limitation.

No doubt a tablet is also a must these days, but getting every movie we own on a tablet or SD card is not an option. In this car you're not installing anything yourself as the TFT display incorporates everything in the car and so you couldn't pull it out to put anything else in without loosing all kinds of stuff.
