I have had that same battle my self I usually let them win they dont care at all.

They slightly extend out but do not pose a driving problem. I took a photo from the rim view as you requested. So as soon as I can download it I will post it

As Wildspeed said the problem is that in my country the roads are not that wide and most of times the road is jammed) So when you enter a turn you can use just your own lane because the other one is occupied))) and turning this size of a monster on one line does require good driving and size sensing skills)
