2014 R/T using oil
Here is what Ma Mopar released in 2012 for oil consumption. http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0900112.pdf
It's unbelievable that Dodge would put that in writing.
Did you check the oil when you first bought it? I always check all the fluids even on a new car. I get new cars every 3 yrs and can't tell you how many times 1 or more fluid levels were off.
I would swap out the dino factory fill for a good synthetic and filter. I like Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum and K&N or Purolator Gold filters.

Yes I did check it the first day, it was a qt low then,
and again 3 days ago, another qt, that makes 2. Am calling the dealer today and get it in.
The break in oil is done at the factory, they put oil in & run it, drain and put the new in. So factory oil shouldn't be the issue.
I have done a lot of reading on the R/T before I bought it and this Hemi seems to be all over as far as oil useage. They are a lot of people out there that use no oil and some that use a few quarts every oil change. I just got my R/T yesterday so I will have to see how it goes. There is not a dealer in the world that will tell you that a quart every 3-4k miles is a problem. Some people here are buying catch cans to catch blow thought in the PVC system and they are catching a lot of oil. I am going to wait and see how my oil usage goes before I buy one. Give it some time to wear in some more the useage may slow down.
Examples are in that notice, but a few to point out that can be easy user errors are: Not waiting very long after stopping the engine to check the oil and allowing it to settle back in the crankcase, checking oil when it's hot and then later when it's cold or vise versa, driving only short distances where water build up can lead to the oil level appearing higher than it really is due to water not evaporating, and, of course, not seating the oil dipstick all the way before taking a reading. And some people may be driving their vehicles especially hard or under load. Also, some may not have broken the engines in the same as others, meaning that some of the piston rings aren't seated well. Engine break in can have a big effect on oil consumption.
Additionally, those that have had the recall work performed regarding the blue smoke at startup should be advised that the fix for that was the installation of a new oil pan and a side effect is that the dipstick does not read correctly afterwards.

I bought my 2012 Crew 5.7L used at 40,000 miles and changed all the fluids and activated the "Change Oil Now" system. It hasn't activated yet and I have driven around 6800 miles and the oil level is down about a 1/2 qt. I always check my oil level when the engine is cold and check the oil for color when the oil is hot. If you check the oil for color when it is cold it will appear real dark which would indicate you should change the oil but if you check the oil for color when it is hot it will be nice and clear. My wife has a 2007 300C 5.7L and you tell the system when you want to change the oil and it will remined you when to change the oil. She has it set at 7,500 miles. She has used std. 10w30 Penn's oil and burns about a qt every 5000 miles or so. That car now has 78,500 miles on the odometer. I cleaned the plugs at 72,000 miles and the gap was .054". I regaped them to .043" and screwed them back into the engine. Did not notice any difference in performance.

That wouldn't bother me if mine did that. You're probably using the throttle a lot, ha ha. After owning Mazda rotary engines, oil consumption becomes the norm so 1/2 quart is hardly anything.
My 2014 Durango hemi R/T, leaving me in a blue cloud & using oil.
Just got it back from the dealer, they ended up having to replace all 16 valves !!
Replaced one on #8, they started it the next morning, and still lots of smoke.
Service manager called Dodge and they ended up replacing all 16.
It seems to be running o.k. but I am still not happy now with having a repaired engine on a brand new vehicle....
I am so hoping that when we start to tow our travel trailer next month, that it will be fine. Don't want to be left a couple hundred miles from home with no vehicle !!

My paperwork says, Replaced intake & PCV seals, used bore scope and found carbon buildup on cylinder 8, removed valve cover & replaced all valve seals. (16)
But... the day after when I had it home, it smoked again on start up.
Service manager is going to replace both heads this coming week.
Already called Dodge Customer Care and started a file number, because I am having no faith that this problem will get resolved.
