Cool 2014 R/T using oil

Have a 2014 R/T, love it !!
However, got home, checked the oil, qt low.
Now less than 3000 miles on it, another qt low.
Thinking this is NOT normal ??
Never had any vehicle use that much oil.

Anyone else have this issue ??

I have done a lot of reading on the R/T before I bought it and this Hemi seems to be all over as far as oil useage. They are a lot of people out there that use no oil and some that use a few quarts every oil change. I just got my R/T yesterday so I will have to see how it goes. There is not a dealer in the world that will tell you that a quart every 3-4k miles is a problem. Some people here are buying catch cans to catch blow thought in the PVC system and they are catching a lot of oil. I am going to wait and see how my oil usage goes before I buy one. Give it some time to wear in some more the useage may slow down.

It takes almost 7 quarts just to get it to show on the dipstick on mine, I'm going through about a quart in 10,000 miles, I'm catching about 1/3 quart in the catch can but who knows where the rest is going.

My 2004 hemi burned almost a quart every 3000 miles, my 2011 R/T burns substantially less. Dealer told me the 04 was within normal specs. Hopefully your will slow down.

I've got 12,000 miles on mine. Hasn't used a drop. First oil change at slightly over 6K miles and the dipstick was right up to the mark. I've heard some on the forum say they changed their break in oil at 1,000 miles which doesn't seem too good a practice. Weird how they fluctuate from car to car.

My 2013 burned almost 2 quarts during its first 1000 miles. Since switching from the factory fill at 1k miles to Amsoil it has not used any oil. Oil change interval is every 5k. Currently have 21k on it.

Get that factory oil out of there and its time to put in a Good Synthetic with a Mopar filter
It will become better.
If you take out the factory oil yourself you will see it's like water and Black , black black It has done its job with break in and cleansing, now its time for some real oil

Off Topic--Way2QWK, what grade of Amsoil are you using since I should probably switch to synthetic. I was always told (old school perhaps) that I should leave the break in oil in for at least 3,000 miles. Seems that your getting factory oil out helped your engine. By the way hat's a great color on the Durango.

Did you check the oil when you first bought it? I always check all the fluids even on a new car. I get new cars every 3 yrs and can't tell you how many times 1 or more fluid levels were off.

I would swap out the dino factory fill for a good synthetic and filter. I like Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum and K&N or Purolator Gold filters.
