Thanks Mike. On my pickup I have a 5 pin or 4 pin adapter that pops in. Might head up to autozone after lunch and check it out.

Just got back from my trip and wanted to thank all of those who responded. My dads truck was fixed by the time I caught up with him so I didn't need to tow the trailer. I was rather curious to see how it would pull but I guess I will have to wait for next time. On a side note my RT had the best gas mileage of my ownership in the last two years. I had 21 mpg going to Yellowstone and 23 mpg coming back(2400km round trip). Before this trip, I was lucky if I got 19-20 mpg and even had it drop to 18mpg on the highway. I'm not going to get too excited but it was nice to get over 700km per tank especially given the fact my average speed was between 70 - 75 mph. Thank you Montana for your high speed limits!!! I also noticed a substantial difference in the ride as the roads were smooth with very few bumps or road joints once I was South of Calgary and especially in Montana. For once, I almost enjoyed driving what I have come to call the red devil(many issues with my Durango). I still had the steering wheel wobble come into play once in a while but not nearly as much as on my Northen/Central Alberta roads.

I just got back from 30 days and 3,800 miles of towing my 6,600 lb Airstream. For a week we were in the Gaspe which has a lot of short but very steep hills. MPG dropped to 9 there, but generally was a bit over 10. Used tow/haul mode all the time, it works well.

I'm sure dodge sets the max towing weight less than what the true max is. Tounge weight on the rear axle is what really matters. I don't think you need to worry when towing anything near 7k

No, I wasn't worried. I weighed the Durango and trailer so I know everything is within the limits.

I am going to pull the trigger on a 2017 Durango GT AWD 3.6 with the Trailer Tow IV pkg and leveling suspension tomorrow. But I want to be sure that it would be capable of pulling a Cobalt 240 weighing a total of 5500 lbs...just from my lake house to the ramp, about 20 miles round trip, up and down hills. No extended towing expected. I do not want the HEMI because the gas mileage is so bad...it is a daily driver around town and to the lake on weekends. Thoughts?

v6 is rated for 6200 so you should be fine.
