Fellows, what about when you purchase without the tow package (Doh!) and then decide you want to tow something.

2017 hemi AWD citadel.

According to the dealer even though I have the heavy duty cooling, they can add the trailer brake wiring, and receiver hitch. (Also already have full size spare)..

Why will they only rate my vehicle to pull 3500lb?

I'd like to pull a 5-6klb travel trailer but am not sure what the risk would be

Also dealer quoted $1k to put the hitch and wiring on the vehicle

I think the only other thing in the package may be a tranny cooler. But if you have or added all that stuff, it should tow ok. The one thing you'll still miss is the tow/haul mode if you don't have that. I always tow with that engaged, it makes a big difference. I routinely tow a 6600 lb Airstream with my hemi.

$1k for the hitch and wiring sounds high.

Correct. I think tranny cooler is what he's missing.

No tow/haul mode on the 8 speed Durangos. Transmission is "intelligent" so it doesn't need it.

You may also not have the rear load leveling Nivomat shocks, which are part of the tow group.

But they are not needed with a weight distributing hitch.

No extended towing expected. I do not want the HEMI because the gas mileage is so bad...it is a daily driver around town and to the lake on weekends. Thoughts?
I tow my boat about 500# all the time with the V6 and it tows just fine. Since I am not towing a lot I did not want the V8. On a trip I will get a solid 24-25 mpg. Around town 20-21.
Gnet the V6!
