Angry Front Brakes & Rear Shocks "shocking"

Hey

We are about to embark on our yearly pilgriimage to points West,a
2100 mile round trip to the inlaws/outlaws cottage in northern Ontario.

Took our R/T in for front brakes and rear shocks, symptoms were
Steering wheel wobble during highway braking and rear end
unstable over bumps at highway speed.

Mechanic had trouble finding replacement shocks put the old ones back on
local dealer wanted $ 581.00(CDN) per shock . looking for a solution.

Our Mileage 60000 KM or 37200 miles.
I am curious as to what others have experienced with similar issues
mileage and or solutions.

Thanks

napper505,

I'm sorry to learn of brakes and shock concerns.

The shocks would carry a 3 year, 60,000km warranty in Canada. Did you have an opportunity to speak with the Service Manager at your Dodge dealer when the estimate was provided?

I have 46k miles on my 2012 Citadel and have had no issues with shocks or brakes, though perhaps not as much wear on them since most miles are highway. I will need to replace the tires before 50k.

How much for shocks? Man, that seems fkd.
Have you phoned around for yourself to price shocks?
Like Auto Value or Canadian tire or Napa.
$500+ each seems about $800+ high for a pair.

Out of curiosity, I checked the RockAuto website and they have Monroe and KYB shocks for about $55.00. I don't think these replace the self-adjustable/leveling shocks that some of the D'd have, like those with towing package. Additional internet searches should yield you something less expensive than $581.00 for a replacement shock.

At 37,200 miles, if you're the first owner especially, someone should be going to bat for you to get them covered.

The amount of RIDICULOUS good wills they do here in the USA...The astounding stupidity would make your jaw drop.

Wow, what is you exact KM? Actually over the 60K km mark when you took it in?

We had 88,000 on ours and I had only replaced the front pads once at about 70,000 Miles.

I'm hoping my 2012 Durango does as well as my 2005; rear brakes at 105k miles, front brakes at 145k miles. Probably could have gone longer on the fronts. I do put a lot of highway miles on, which helps. Big change from the three Caravans that preceded it - they seemed to go through front brakes every 30-40k miles. My 2012 is at 47k now, no sign of any brake issues.
