Default Wi-Fi

Anyone use the wi-fi capability much? I just signed up for the first time and am extremely disapointed (as I frankly am with much of the "new" 2014 technology). I paid good money for this service, and I'm not sure what good it really is. My cell phone plan provides plenty of data for normal stuff. I hooked up the car wi-fi so my kids could stream data off the web. The connection is so slow that with all the buffering necessary it's impossible to watch anything. More than likely it's not 4G. Anyone else have a similar or different experience?

Thanks.

What carrier do they use (probably AT&T), and how is their coverage where you tried it?

I do use ATT, but my coverage is excellent. I live in a metropolitan area and have never dropped a call. Having said that, we are talking about the car's wifi, not my phone. I'm not sure what carrier the car uses to create it's cellular internet connection, but it has nothing to do with any phone that may or may not be in the car at the time.

I was asking what company the Durango uses for the data, and never said it had anything to do with your phone. If you can figure out the carrier, you can look at their coverage maps and figure out what data rate it may be using. Then again even if the carrier has 4g, Dodge may have a deal and hardware for only 3g.

I'm not sure what the carrier is, but coverage is not an issue where I live for any of the major carriers. It's no doubt 3G considering the performance. I just don't know why they even bother to offer it. It's like a very expensive cell phone plan -- to hook your cell phone to. The whole thing is silly and worthless.

The carrier is Sprint and it is only 3g. I bought it over the summer for the kids not for hitting the web as much as them being able to link over wifi with there tables to play games together.

Grab a 4G LTE portable hotspot from any of the carriers, 5 gig of data runs about $40.00 per month and several 3-10 can connect simultaneously.

Depending on your carrier and phone, using your phone as the hotspot works great. I did this on a trip; enabling my android tethering app and plugging it into power allowed my family to use their laptops and tablets, usually at 4g. It actually didn't use much of my data plan since they avoided streaming or big downloads.

thats disappointing to hear. I was planning on not getting the DVD for the exact reason of using the wifi hotspot when we go on road trips so my kids can use their kindles.

Guess I have to add back in the DVD package to the future order. I would rather get a hotspot or use my phone as a hotspot and just bump my plan for trips since it will be 4G but at least we will have DVD for them to watch without having to preload movies.

Every kid movie I have I burn and put in my network. Before road trips, ask them what movies they want and dump on ipads, worrying about netflix for kids at 3,4,10 when in the car, they can deal till we get to a hotel
