Default External Relay

Regarding the latest TIPM recall, I was told by the dealer (last week) I would need the external relay (even though my TIPM was replaced). However, they do not have the parts right now.

Question: Is the solution like the one posted in this thread? (that involves cutting wires?) Or is it something that will plug in?

What about the other relays inside the TIPM? Will these need to be by-passed in the future? (if they fail)

Regards

The dealer's parts dept screen says they're on backorder, HOWEVER if you call Chrysler and complain, one will mysteriously appear in Chrysler's computer.

It's like magic !

wires need to be cut. I COULD have done the repair to my 2011. but I decided to wait until the dealer got the parts and let them do it so it would all be covered. I bought a plug-in jumper/bypass from Jason at Vertical Visions for about $26 shipped and used that until the dealer finally got the parts.

No, I don't think any other relays will need this treatment. there haven't been any reported issues with other systems that I've heard.

Default Would it be better......

I really don't want the TIPM fuel relay to fail and leave my wife stranded in a parking lot (again).

Is the new relay any different than the one shown in the $75.00 fix?

Regards

Completely - the new relay is external to the TIPM and once wired shouldn't fail as it was manufactured by a different company than the one that produced the relay internal to the TIPM.

Secondly, the Mopar relay is actually 2 pieces: a socket and a plug-in relay, so if the relay did ever fail (unlikely) then it is an easy plug and play replacement (like a fuse)

Alex3192,

Most folks (and FCA) are using the OMRON G8JN-1C6T-F-R-DC12. It's a 35 amp continuous, 120A max relay.
