Default Towing snowmobile trailer with V6

Haven't towed much with my 2013 Durango with the V6 yet but will soon be towing my two snowmobiles on an open trailer. Is it ok to tow in overdrive? Guessing the load will be under 2000 lbs loaded. Towed my 3000 lb boat for short distances and it constantly shifted out of overdrive so I shifted it into 4th manually. Running in 4th the rpm's were really up there so on a longer snowmobile trip that wouldn't be a good thing, engine wise and gas mileage. Will I do any transmission damage pulling my trailer in OD if it wants to downshift at inclines, etc. Thanks.

Usually towing you would keep it out of OD. Check what the owners manual says.

I'd use OD if the terrain and speeds were appropriate, if it's "hunting" between OD then I'd skip it. I am a professional driver and prefer the AutoStick for driving, but I haul twin 28' trailers at work and haven't pulled anything with my V6 Crew.

I have towed extensively with a Kendon trailer and two 500 lb motorcycles, total of 1500 lb. No problem, get 20 mpg. 2013 3.6. On the other hand towed a 12 ft enclosed trailer with 3 500 lb motorcycles, total 3500 lb and I won't do that again. The transmission was very busy and I was often running in 3rd gear. You should not have a problem with 2 snowmobiles and an open trailer.

Lite load you won't have a problem. Like Roogie said use o/d as much as possible. Every pulled load will be a different experience, with that weight you may even get away with small inclines in o/d. If it's starts hunting just pop it out for a while to let the tranny cool. It's hard on the clutch packs with loaded multi shifts but it's not catastrophic. Watch for trans temp spikes but I think you'll be fine bud.

Thanks for all the replies. Just have to be careful in the hills, etc. Looked at upgrading to a hemi but their around the mid $40k range and my 13 Crew blue booked at around $28k, I think I'll pass. Located in southern Minnesota, had a brown Christmas and just got 4" of snow. Need more!
