Drove a 2015 Jeep SRT today and......
...Hopefully in a few years we can get more stuff to beef up the 8 speeds, last I heard when doing research is that they cant handle too much power....
.
I had an email conversation with a tech guy at ZIPP, he said there's a pretty big difference between the 8 in the Durango/Cherokee and the 8 in the 1500. The Durango/Cherokee is much more tunable than the RAM's, due to the Jeeps SRTs heritage, so it can handle a reasonable bump in HP/tq. He noted that you still have to be reasonable in your driving habits with the supercharged Durango, or else. He mentioned that if you go too much more power in the Durango/Cherokee, you'll grenade the 8 speed. He said they no longer offer superchargers for the 1500 because they can not be tuned to handle very much more power over stock at this time. The RAMs 8 is really only reliable to handle bolt ons.
FWIW the SC for the AWD Durango puts down around 420hp at the wheels.
He said it'll run with the SRT8.

The hellcat 8 is far different than all the other 8s.

So when we are talking about variations in transmissions lets use the proper designations so as to avoid confusion.
The 8HP45(845RE) is rated at 331 lbs-ft (v6)
The 8HP70 is rated at 516 lbs-ft (5.7 and 6.4)
The 8HP90 is rated at 664 lbs-ft (6.2 SC)
Both the 8HP70(SRT) and the 8HP90(Hellcat) have increased cooling capacity and upgraded clutch packs for heavy duty use but have not been re-rated for torque capacity. Supercharging a Durango(5.7) in a rear drive application so far hasn't yielded any failed 8HP70s that I am aware of so they are probably right at or above the torque limit. I would be nervous in boosted AWD where nothing can slip but the clutch packs. Boosted AWD SRTs with their slightly stronger versions so far are still alive as well. Time will tell.
