I'm doing it for the black color only.
Anyone can tweak EQ settings.
There's no way it can magically add power to the system to make it sound better, or improve the capabilities of the speakers, THD, signal/noise ratio, frequency response, etc. Those are the specs of the hardware and what limits what it can do.

I'm just pissed I'm in a 2013 and get get the Black screen update.

I wish there's an update to get HD Radio, my Hyundai FM sounds better.

I've run the new 50.00.07 update for a week now and my experience is my stock Alpine sound system is totally different. let me explain.

Before this update I was running my Mid frequency at -6dB. (pic below)

running the EQ this way did two things. the major result was this cleaned up the overall 'flabbiness' of the sound. I can't fully explain it and I can't take credit for figuring it out. I read through the older posts and found where other members had figured this out and shared it with each other. and sure enough, 'turning the Mid all the way down' in the -6db to -9dB range cleared up at least 75%-80% of the crazy distorted sound.

you'll also note that I ran Bass at -5dB to clean up the overly boomy Bass which Chrysler apparently thinks sounds cool in their systems. I've had 7 D/C cars now and each one of mine had boomy flabby Bass that all I could do was turn down the Bass setting (or replace the whole system) to fix.

I also ran the Treble at +1dB which brightened the sound up a bit. for me, anything over about +1dB just wasn't comfortable on my ears for extended listening. maybe I'm just getting older. but I've run sound at church for years and this is something we know. we don't need the upper treble frequencies for vocals and instruments and those frequencies can cause ear strain, especially as people get older. so I liked the Treble at +1 dB.

Now, there was a side effect to running the Mid at -6dB. the Mid frequencies are what give music or vocals their 'presence'. the Treble gives brightness but the Mid gives warmth and presence. it rounds out and fills out the sound we hear.

and by turning the Mid at -6dB or more that is cutting out most of that presence. so I would run Volume at about 19-27 for most listening. the sound system had plenty of room to use. doing this cleaned up most of the mess and in turn I could turn up the Volume without that crazy distortion (mostly) so it mostly worked out.

But I still had a 'hole' in the Mids. the problem frequencies and the warm presence frequencies were probably different ones. close but not the same. the Mid EQ is probably a broad setting just like the Bass and Treble are. so I was fixing my problem but at the same time sacrificing the warmth I knew should be there.

it was a trade off. and a trade off I was going to live with until I upgraded the speakers hoping that would give some improvement. I was already planning Infinity Reference 2 ohm and I had already called my local sound shop and was laying plans to do the change out this spring.

Now, with the 50.00.07 firmware I don't have to do that. I'm now running Bass at -6dB, Mid at 0dB and Treble at +1dB. the Bass and Treble are essentially the same. the difference is the Mid. i even run Volume in the same range 19-27.

all this tells me D/C had something screwy in the Mid range EQ. probably to give the system extra 'oomph' to make it sound louder or more there. whatever it was and whyever it was there, it was really screwing up the sound. now it seems to be gone, thankfully.

So you stayed Blue as well ?
If so, seems like a lot of time to basically adjust the EQ setting.
I'm there, and I don't see the value in the time spent.
System sounds the same after tweaking the EQ.
No more power, no difference in quality.

no, my display is black now (pic below). this pic below is right after I did the update. I've since tweaked the EQ to the levels I posted above.

I posted the old pic with the blue background to give a visual of what I was talking about with the EQ settings.

don't get me wrong. there are still issues with the system. there is still a mid-Bass hump in the sound. most auto audio systems have this. Jim Fosgate (founder of Rockford Fosgate) was one of the first to put a RTA (Real Time Analyzer) in a car and map the audio characteristics and notice this. my running the Bass at around -6dB is partially for this mid-Bass hump and partially because Chrysler just likes to engineer a lot of Bass in their systems.

there is also the 'problem' of the 8" sub in the plastic enclosure. that's not going to produce really deep bass in the first place. and from what I read, the Chrysler amp is set to cross-over at around 55Hz. that's just crazy too low for any system much less one that only has an 8" driver in a plastic enclosure. bottom line is this system isn't capable of deep, hard hitting bass. but the music I listen to doesn't depend on having bass like that, so I'm good.

so there are issues with the Stock Alpine system that are still there. these are mechanical deficiencies in design that I would EXPECT to be there. you'd have to have a seriously premium stock system not have those issues.

it was the weirdo, overall distortion I didn't expect to be there that was so frustrating. and now, for my system that's pretty much cleaned up.

plasmageorge, mine is a RHB (430N). I believe yours is a RHR (730N). these are two different radios. everything I've read says they are manufactured by two separate sources and use two different Nav softwares. here's a post with some info.

http://www.challengertalk.com/forums...vs-430n-72827/

and we're talking two different updates here; the 2.xxx vs the 50.xxx.

I don't have any direct experience updating a RHR.

I tried going to the Uconnect site to download the software for my RHB unit... when i put in my VIN number it said no update. Bummer, was looking forward to the update based on what I read here.

As mentioned in a few of the earlier posts here, the uConnect site seems very eager to say no updates are available, even though there are. The same applied to me, but the System information screen showed I was at version 23.x.y. I successfully updated to 33._._ and immediately again to 50.00.07 without issue.
