Ok, break it down for me please
Will the filter work on a 2011 Durango R/T? If it does, what's the advantage?

No advantage. Just another filter. OEM.

here's some info I found on the Challenger forum. I'm posting the pic they posted over there, a link to that thread and a link directly to the SRT page they reference.

its totally up to you if you see a benefit in this filter. I like it. its OEM for SRT engines so it has to be quality filter. I only run full synthetic oil so I'm going to be using a top shelf filter no matter what brand I choose. might as well run a top shelf OEM filter.

changed my oil this morning and used the new Mopar SRT oil filer. fit perfectly. in some ways its tougher to put on and take off because I normally use Fram Extended Guard filters. the Fram filters have a grippy textured end where as the Mopar filter is clean metal.

I'm so used to having the Fram filters and being able to get a good grip on the end of them when I spin them on. but the SRT filter went on just fine and fit perfectly.

this is my second oil change since I bought the D back in Nov. each time I've had to use my breaker bar to get the drain plug free. it goes back in just fine and the threads are all clean. believe me I checked closely. but each time I've had to really lay into the breaker bar to get that plug to loosen.

anyone else have that?

It's my understanding that the Viper and SRT filters are made under contract by the same suppliers of standard Mopar filters - Purolator and Champion Labs (Mopar branded filters available at retail locations are a separate license with Fram).

The difference is they are spec'd with all synthetic media and a higher pressure activated bypass. The higher pressure bypass is not as good for cold starts but significantly better for high demand (racing) applications...

Sounds to me like the SRT engines have a little different requirements than a regular R/T engine. Would seem like putting 92 octane in an engine designed for 87, sure it'll probably work fine but probably unnecessary.
