Default 2013 r/t weird gas cap problem

(Tried searching first. Regular search took me to O'Rielly's ad twice. Advanced search turned up no results for cap or gas cap).
Check engine light came on yday at 31k. Stopped at Autozone for a code read. Gas cap. Opened the door and tried to tighten. It would not tighten. I would meet resistance that you would get just before the click. Turn past that and it would loosen. Bought a new cap at AZ and same thing. Ideas? Thanks.

Sometimes it needs to be an OEM cap to work correctly. Meaning buy from dealer.

I'll bet it won't cost you but about $35 at the dealer....but I could be wrong.

You will also need to reset the trouble code after installing the new one.

I got that same Code 2 weeks ago, took that cap off and back on, CEL stayed.
Used my ITunes to delete the Code and it hasn't come back.

Dealer cleared the code but it is stored. Maybe the cap was loose, but it took 200 miles for the light to come on. OK, how did you clear the code with iTunes?

Hi pjw1967,

As other folks have said, I would definitely recommend heading to an FCA dealership to get a Mopar fuel cap. Be sure to keep us posted!

It's an option after you hit SCAN TOOL on the main menu, then you can READ DTC or CLEAR DTC.

I'm pretty certain he meant to say "Intune", as in Diablosport tuner. It came out as iTunes.....as in little music playing gadget.

Sometimes something singing to you is more help than anything else.
