charging issues
My wife was driving our 2011 crew 3.6 home the other day when the battery light came on. she said she kept driving it for a couple minutes (she was in the middle of nowhere), when all of the lights on the instrument panel started going crazy, the wipers came on, and then the car died. when i got there battery was hot to the touch, and when attempting to jump it the was a rather large spark hooking up the cables. i figured that the alternator probably shorted to ground internally and replaced the alternator and battery since it was over 4yrs old anyway. it fired up and runs just fine, but the new alternator is not charging.
i'm thinking thinking that the tipm might be fried and causing the alternator to not charge. but at over $900 from the stealership i thought it would be wise to ask y'alls opinion. can a bad tipm cause a no charging condition, or is there something else i should be looking at?
